Thanks for the info. I just assumed it was part of the chain we have all over California.

Steak Shack is delicious but a very casual, plate lunch kind of place - not a sit down place - right on the beach. It is only open until 7pm so lunch or an early dinner. Grab a plate and head to the beach, which is literally steps away. But cheap and yummy.

It can be kind of tricky to find but if you go to the corner of Kalia Rd and Saratoga (Trump Tower is right there), there is a paved path leading to the beach bordering Fort DeRussy. Walk down the path all the way to the beach (you will pass a Subway) and it is in the group of stores and cafes on your left.
It was a bit tricky to find but we found it

It was good, cheap ($7 for rice, salad, and some chopped steak that was tasty)

We went about 2:30 p.m. and it was probably the wrong time to go as it was so hot to sit on those tables outside along the walkway. But we did get to see Santa, some guy that looked like he was the wrong end of a fight in a bad B movie and a parade of middle aged women with whale tails but all in all a good lunch.

PS, next person, bring something to kill the pigeons that are not afraid of you and if you turn your head will bee line it for your plate
LOL

Its not. The guy that started them all sold out to whoever owns the chain now and kept this one.

I go there 2-3 times a week to listen to music.

They just came out with a new "late night" menu that starts at 9:30 and last till close. Very good prices for Waikiki.....and pretty decent offerings.

Lol, that gave me a good laugh! Never noticed that about the pigeons but will definitely keep my eyes open next week.

Never tried the 10oz. But even the regular is plenty. Like I said, it ain't gourmet but it is cheap, tasty and consistent. And good value as the portion size is generous.

Of the restaurants mentioned by other posters, it looks like only the DK or Charthouse stand any slight chance of meeting your 50 buck limit for that type. Maybe you should enjoy the other Hawaii options and wait until you get back home for that type of dinner.

Actually, I just asked my husband and he says he'd probably prefer seafood since we'll be in Hawaii. He usually likes steak for a special occasion but we have plenty of good steak places here. I don't eat beef or pork, so seafood is great for me. When I say entrees under $50, that's a generalization. Not every entree on the menu need be under $50. I'm just not looking for something with most entrees in the $60 - $100 range.

I can’t really guide you to exactly what you want, but.......
In the HHV http://www.hiltonhawaiianvillage.com...ak-and-seafood
Yelp for above (mixed reviews) http://www.yelp.com/biz/bali-steak-and-seafood-honolulu

The only restaurant we have tried in HHV was Fresco Italian Restaurant during their opening week. Pretty bad!

Seafood Village in basement of the Hyatt Regency has reasonable priced seafood. We never tried that but liked their walnut shrimp, etc. Duck down during the day and size it up for ambiance first. http://www.seafoodvillagehyatt.com/dinnermenu.html Am surprised at the many bad reviews on Yelp. The one claiming to have spent $300 and a $30 tip was added did not compute. They do add an automatic tip, but are one of the few that tell you and cross off the tip section on the credit card slip. So $30 would not be the tip, more like $45+. We have eaten there at least 10 times and were always satisfied. They also have early bird specials. Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/seafood-village-honolulu

One place that does not quite fit your desires but is almost a must since you have a car and hopefully a gps is La Mariana Tiki Bar and Restaurant. It is a couple of miles short of the airport. A genuine old Tiki bar and restaurant with reasonable good food, drink and prices. Most nights they have a blind duo that play the piano, ukulele and sing. You might call to check if they are there. Hope one of you is designated driver.

Another none fit is The Willows (buffet) mostly open air with water fall, tropical flowers, etc. and fairly good food the one time we were there. Located close to Waikiki. http://willowshawaii.com Yelp; : http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-willows-honolulu

Yelp is a scam....and want money out of restaurants to make bad reviews go away and/or post good ones by "customers."

I know multiple folks out here that stopped messing with yelp due to issues with them trying to strong-arm them when they try to refute bad reviews that may/may not have occurred........

What about Azure for our anniversary? I haven't seen it mentioned much in here but it does seem to get good reviews. If we go there do you recommend the tasting menu or ordering from the fresh fish menu? Thoughts?

How does it compare with Alan Wong's? Looking at that one too, but it's not by the beach of course.

That may explain why the really bad reviews are usually the first ones.
