QR has a system where points roll over for 1 year. Combined with their triple tier points offer on all flights until aug, i am tempted to leave AY. Can qualify and reaualify platinum for 2 years with 3 longhaul during summer.

Looks weird

HEL-BKK AY95 leaves 65 mins later but arrives 30 mins later.
BKK-HEL AY96 leaves 60 mins earlier but arrives same time.

DST?

Now that flights to POR have been resumed, it is interesting that on the ARN-POR leg NextJet has got KL as a codeshare partner, but not AY on the HEL-POR leg.

I wonder why AY is unwilling to join the project... The flights have been half-empty - no wonder why.

Hi,

I've just been hit by the AY143 schedule change, new time 21:55. I'm inbound from LHR on AY1336 due at 21:05.

I realise MCT is 35 minutes but from those more experinced than I, is it realistic? I'm flying J, should I look to change my inbound? If that is an option.

Since your connection is from non-Schengen to non-Schengen and coming from an airport which doesn't require new security check in Helsinki, you'll be fine as long as your inbound flight is not delayed. Most likely you will have only a short walk (max 5 minutes) between the gates.

I'm blatantly copying a fellow FTers info from another forum here (sorry!), but it looks like next summer AY will operate OUL-PMI-OUL. While that flight is pure charter and not open for bookings, it creates an interesting opportunity to make a 0-night mass tourism trip from HEL to PMI on Wednesdays:

HEL-PMI 05:55-08:55 AY1711
PMI-OUL 09:55-15:20 AY7060
OUL-PMI 16:25-20:05 AY7059
PMI-HEL 20:55-01:50(+1) AY1712

12 hours in Palma, anyone?

How did you arrive at 12 hrs?

OUL-PMI 16:25-20:05 AY7059
PMI-OUL 09:55-15:20 AY7060

That's 14 hrs. Don't tell me you want to spend daylight hours there, when you can hit the clubs at 10 pm or so and go to the airport straight from the last pub (or first breakfast place)

Wrong city you start at.

Who wants to pay those 690€ for such a Y return ticket. And it seems like no J service available.

General question from my end regarding AY flights to China or specifically Shanghai. Has there ever been a discussion / plan if AY will be offering a night flight to Shanghai or any destination in China (lets exclude HK)? Or is there a specific reason why all flights to Mainland China and back are day flights?

Reason being is that I have a baby on board now and last day flight was a NO-Go (not airlines fault but the timing).

I don't think it would work timing-wise. If flight left from Beijing 0:55, it would arrive 3:15 in Helsinki during wintertime. Even if it is time shifted forward, still departure/arrival times would be quite bad.

The flights to mainland China are night flights. You start in the late afternoon and land in the morning.

The reason probably is the so called "banks" Finnair uses. The longhaul flights are timed together in a "bank", where almost every flight leaves HEL in one single hour in the afternoon. This is done so assure every destination they serve in Europe is well connected to every destination they serve in Asia.
Likewise, every incoming longhaul flight is timed so that they have short connections to European destinations.

This makes up one of Finnair strongest selling points - shortest travel time between many destinations.
And like you've noticed, the price to pay for this is very little wiggle room for making schedules that are perfect for every local market. If they would change departure time from Asia, then the price to pay would be longer connectino times in HEL.

When/if Finnair starts with multiple daily from several destinations then they could of course arrange for a new bank timed to fit, but this requires not only demand for 2 daily on the longhaul but also many more shorthaul planes.

And this is of course an excellent point. "Night" depends on what timezone your are using. In general, to fight jetlag, it is best to very early on adopt the new timezone, so I'd agree that these flights are night-flights as they are done through the night in the destination's TZ.
