So it looks like you had to do two overnights (one each way) on your PHL mileage run....is that typical for you Alaska-based folks due to flight scheduling? Do you have a go-to hotel or do you just find a cozy bench at Sea-tac to save $$?

I have used these runs to help retain my Hilton HHonors Diamond status. So I got two stays out of this trip. I'm too old for the cozy bench routine anymore!
I have a stable of go-to properties in the vicinity of KSEA. Choice is usually based on rates - they fluctuate wildly.

Hey there... I am a MVPG75K who, through a combination of good luck with Cyber Monday, Flash Sales, other things I unwittingly stumbled upon, and business travel, have taken quite a few flights in 2015. I have had wonderful luck in receiving upgrades but also see some trends changing in the past few weeks (e.g. PHL & DTW).
I imagine there is a 20+-yo data analytics genius who could create a rough algorithm of likelihood for UGs based on what we all post and I would love to see such a thing emerge. However, I suspect human nature is a confounder thus who knows what will happen. Anyway, here are the last few months of my UGs on AS metal:
1/20 SEA-TPA (AS 774) no UG; exit row with other MRs
1/20 TPA-SEA (AS 775) UG; T – 120
1/23 SEA-LAX (AS 424) UG; T – 120
1/23 LAX-SEA (AS 463) UG; T -120
1/24 SEA-PHL (AS 32) UG; T- 120
1/24 PHL-SEA (AS 27) UG; T -120 (9/16 in FC were MR…some of us bonded)
1/28 SEA-SLC (AS 726) no UG (Sundance festival…lots of AS FF)
1/29 SLC-SEA (AS 727) UG: T - < 24
2/04 SEA-TPA (AS 774) no UG; exit row with folks from 1/20…fun ☺
2/04 TPA-SEA (AS 775) UG; T -120
2/14 SEA-DTW (AS 792) UG; T-72
2/14 DTW-SEA (AS 793) UG; T-120
2/21 SEA-DTW (AS 792) UG; T- 1 (at boarding)
2/21 DTW-SEA (AS 793) UG; T- 120
2/24 SEA-PHL (AS 32) no UG; way down on the list…the times are changing
2/24 PHL-SEA (AS 27) UG; T-120
2/28 SEA-BWI (AS 766) UG; T-120
2/28 BWI-SEA (AS 767) UG; T-120
3/10 SEA-ATL AS 746) Paid FC
3/12 ATL-SEA (AS 745) UG; T-4 hrs…shocked that I was Ug'd
Cheers

I have a trip upcoming (march 3) SEA DFW, and a few days later DFW SEA (march 6). I will be in the back on both, as from what I can tell, all of FC is sold out. I am trying out 6C on way to DFW but am stuck in 16B on way back home. Still, exit row even middle is preferred for me.
Btw, this will be my first trip in 2015 that I did not get upgraded, it has been 100% till this one

Endventure mentioned in his post that "times are a changing" with respect to upgrades. I think he might be right.
I'm a regular sea-DFW flyer. feb and mar should be my rock solid always upgrade months but lately that hasn't been the case even on Wednesday flights! There's been several flights I didn't get the upgrade. Increasingly, I have seen my name slide further down the upgrade list. I'm a 75k mind you! Just recently I was #4 on the upgrade list on Tuesday going to DFW. #4?!? They had 3 seats available so i hoped on the earlier morning flight to DFW and sat in a middle seat.
My anecdotal report is that upgrades are getting tougher. I've compensated by spending more on my price per ticket and now nearly always book u (m) class when in coach. While that is good for as, my concern is that the new 75ks that got in the door by challenging in to the mileage program and with whom I am now competing with will result in me getting significantly less upgrades. This changes my calculation on the fly as v aa question because when I fly aa u know I am at least getting economy confort (or main cabin extra or whatever it is called). Leg space is important to me! I'd rather have the guaranteed extra leg space on Aa waiting out the 100k I have to fly before executive platinum than know that the only time I'm going to get the extra leg space on AS is when I buy an A class ticket.
I know I could sit in row 15 or 16 but I like to get off the plane fast when we land. So I don't like to sit get far back.
SURE WOULD BE NICE IF AS OFFERED EC SEATS IN COACH.
Hint hint nudge nudge.
Also be nice if they would improve the food offering in F to DFW. It sucks compared to ewr or Dca. It should be the same I think.

Please excuse the poor grammar. I pecked this out on my iPhone.

3/24/15 -- AS #28 SEA-MSP -- Upgraded to F at T-120 as a G75K
Waiting to see what might happen on AS #120 ANC-SEA that day. Still 2 seats in F, no U space at this time, but aircraft looks surprisingly empty when I check on EF. Fingers crossed ...
