Yes, that's a different case... strange...

Do we know when other *A members release *business class* award inventory to A3? I know SQ hardly ever does for long haul, and I have read in the UA forum that BR releases T-14.

Thanks.

In my experience...whatever you see available for UA or ANA or AC flyers (logging in as non-elite on all of these airline websites)....you will be able to get with A3 miles.

What you wont have access is for example...special inventories airlines release for their own elites.

Just as a data point - my experience is quite contrary to yours. Space available via UA, ANA, AC and EF wasn't seen by A3 on many routes, many dates, many *A airlines. But that's just my experience.

that sucks! Because, all the legwork you do in finding award space goes wasted.

That is true, A3 seems to get less award compare to other *A members.

This is contrary to my experience as well, but a bit worrying. Maybe it would be helpful if someone could provide some examples?

Sure, why not.

I was looking for award space within the Asia a few months back. Asia is supposed to be nice in regards to awards, as there are quite a few Star Alliance airlines there.

I had a particular dates i wanted to fly, but i was not fixed on destinations. I was looking for flights from NRT - preferably to the south (SIN, CGK and anywhere in between).

I've seen space open in all the online tools that are often used to check award space (ANA, UA, AC, EF, etc), and they all showed up the awards being available, but when i called the Aegean call center - they haven't seen anything at all, or just a single seat (i wanted to book two).

This going back and forth for a few months, dozens of calls made, we decided, in light of the limited available space, to split for a part of the trip.

Guess what? The last ditch effort payed of as an NRT-CGK segment on ANA opened up with 2 award seats available in business for our dates as i was to book alternative routing for both of us, on separate flights.

The CSRs couldn't explain why they see different availability than other Star Alliance airlines.

What's more interesting, for the flights i was checkin, all the tools showed the same award space being available, so it wasn't like everyone showed something different...

Thanks jackebofh, but I was thinking more of specific flights which were available on other engines but not bookable on A3.

Still, it sounds like you did the right things in trying to resolve it, I wonder if this is a recent development.

I don't remember the exact flight numbers, but from what i remember:
SQ inventory was essentially blocked in C and F for SIN-NRT, SIN-ICN etc.
NH had multiple (at least 2) seats in C or F between certain destinations (NRT/HND-DPS/CGK/SIN, etc), but A3 saw only 1 or none.
On TG - BKK-ICN or NRT/HND all the tools showed more then 2 C seats open, but A3 could see only one.
The award space on OZ was more or less the same for all the tools, and A3 have seen that (up to two seats on a given flight - that's what i've checked).

I hope it helps.

My experience is the same with jackebofh, I wanted to book an intra-Asia flight, as this is the sweet spot with A3 chart, however the agent couldn't see any ex-NRT flights, when AC was showing NRT-SIN(NH)-DPS(SQ) in J. When I ask her to split the segments into two, NRT-SIN and SIN-DPS, it was showing in the system and she said I can book both segments for the price of 1 (21k miles). I believe A3 does get less award, and also there are some problem with their booking system, I wish I can get access to it and see what's going on .

Tax on SIN-PEK

I'm trying to book SIN-PEK-CTS with two nights in Beijing, so I have to get two one ways. A3 agent quoted me 21k miles with 120 euros taxes on SIN-PEK on CA, is it normal? ITA shows YQ is $5+, and YR is $90. United awards has $26 tax

Yes it is normal, A3 charges YQ base on ITA Matrix (except AC and UA). You can actually save money and miles you if fly CTS-PEK-SIN, and stay in PEK for less than 24 hrs. By departing in Japan you save some fee from YQ.

Thanks.

But ita shows YQ =$5.xx and YR~$100. Does YQ include YR?

Yes, also A3 allows transit for up to 24hrs. So your total redemption miles would be 21k in J if you choose that.
