But NRT-SIN is (and will remain) a 777 which means old config.

UA does not allocate its fleet on a longest-to-shortest basis. Some of the longer flights right now still get the old 747, while shorter segments have the new config.

They even have that dedicated website for it. My guess is flight 804 will be one of the first to be configured in the new business class considering it is one of its longest routes. Does anyone know when the 777 of this route will be completed?
If you trust the UA website, why bother post here?

The fact is that 777 reconfiguration has been delayed, and there is no assurance that it won't delay again. IAD-NRT is likely to be using 777 in June 2010. The winter switch to 744 is in part due to UA suspending IAD-PEK flight. The IAD-PEK traffic will be filtered to IAD-NRT-PEK flights. Once UA restart IAD-PEK in the Spring, both will go back to 777s (already showing on United.com)

so you guys are saying SIN-NRT will be the old 777 configuration and NRT-IAD will have the new 747 configuration for June 2010? Am I reading that correctly?

As UA_Flyer points out above, 747 service IAD-NRT is only projected until 3/27/2010; after that point, it's unknown if it will revert to 777 or stay with the 747.

It's pretty much impossible to predict with certainty what type of plane United will fly NRT-IAD 10 months from now. If it's a 777, chances are favor an old cabin. If it's a 747, the conversions should be done and you'll be in the new seats.

Kuwait Aircraft

I am traveling back from Kuwait on NOV6. Is UA using its new reconfig aircraft B777 on this route?

Thanks,

None of the 772's have had the new seats in F or C put in yet. Currently all 763's and 23/24 744's have been refitted. You can follow progress at suitedreams.united.com. I believe it's the concensus if not reported that United will be putting off the 772 refits until at least 2011. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong....

I believe the latest earnings call said early 2010 will be the start of the 777 reconfig

Correct. And with the earnings being so good (really, no sarcasm), I've reason to believe that UA will indeed start the 777 re-configs next year. That's the good news. The bad news is that we will have about 12-18 months of posts where a pax lost his seat due to a last minute change from 777 new config to old config. I'm going try to avoid 777s next year.

I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that it's more likely to be the other way around. The new configs have fewer F and C seats than the old config, so you'll lose your seat only if your plane is swapped from old to new. Or do I have that wrong?

United has made recent statements that the first airplane will start the modification process in February 2010. The other two fleets seemed to average about 60 days from the beginning of the first airplane to the first revenue flight.

Flying SIN-NRT-IAD

Hello I think I saw here they are starting the 777 config in February. I am hoping that my flight in Business will have the new seats. Anyone have any ideas? It puzzles me why they have this aircraft on this particular route in the first place and don't have a config 747 because of the sheer distance.
