Keep in mind that it is often cheaper to just buy another ticket than to participate in DEQM...especially when United wants +$500 for DEQM and you are already in the high 30K EQM range or 70K-80K EQM range when the promotion begins.

Of course you have to consider time off from work and other expenses once you arrive. But I'd rather spend 2 long weekends with friends in Europe and Asia than just fork over $500 on top of 1 trip (when I could use that $500 to get somewhere else + redeemable miles and bonus RDMs).

I will be at ~75K EQMs without the DEQM. Because of heavy traveling in the Fall, I would reach ~100K EQMs just by registering, without need for additional flights. On the other hand, I have absolutely no time to take any long trips, so no hope of doing MRs for ~25K EQM.

Result: if there's DEQM, I'll renew 1K and keep being loyal to UA/*A. Otherwise, I'll just more over to AA/OW, which is more convenient in my new location anyway (and currently AAdvantage is a better overall program IMO).

Bottom line is each situation is different, though of course there's a point of diminishing returns if the registration fee is too hight.

I don't think there'll be a DEQM this year.

If the charge posts from ROSEMONT, IL then you have a good chance of getting it. If the charge posts from another office, then no. Not all charges from united.com post from the Rosemont office, apparently... mahasamatman recently booked an award ticket online and paid the $5 security fee with his card, but did not receive the EQMs because the charge posted from the Chicago office instead of from Rosemont.

Only air tickets purchased from United.com will qualify for the EQM's. Promotional fees, items from the UA shop, and other non-ticket charges (even if purchased on UA.com) will not qualify. At least that's been my experience.

Thanks!

Based on the T&C of the card, it appears that all .bomb spend qualifies. Did anyone purchase DEQM last year on their card and can they weigh-in?

No, only ticket purchases. Escapes don't count. Vacations don't count. E+ Access doesn't count. Only UA flights purchased on united.com count.

That's not sufficient. It also has to be for UA tickets. e.g., *A purchases don't count, and they still come from Rosemont.

Definitely not.
I buy all my tickets via agents or TAs and never had an issue with the DEQM in the years I participated (for the sake of SWUs that is).

Two different things being confused here. Yes, DEQMs apply to all UA tickets regardless of source. Other posters are discussing EQM bonus from Chase Platinum card, which applies only to united.com purchases

And if I buy DEQM on united.com, wouldn't that qualify as a united.com purchase and thus net me EQM bonus from the Chase Platinum card?

Nope, this has been discussed here before. Only air transportation counts for Chase Platinum EQMs, and they have clever ways of sorting it out, involving the city where UA processes the charge.

I think you mean DRDMs apply to all UA tickets regardless of source. Am I correct? You can get double RDM's for purchasing a United ticket, even if it's not on United.com. The EQM bonus is only given for UA ticket purchases made on UA.com. UA.com purchases that are not actual ticket purchases will not yield the EQMs.

I don't think so. He actually appears to be on topic, talking about the subject of this thread.

Ah yes. Sorry about that. I thought he was referring to MP Visa charges.

Thanks! Please resume your normal waiting game... maybe the promo will come out tomorrow? :)
