I would say that since most 1K's get their upgrades (we have almost always gotten them and have been 1K lite for the last few years) there are hardly any disgruntled 1K's to deal with. It costs them almost nothing to make a 1K happy by upgrading. A few drinks, a slightly better meal (getting worse by the minute). I would say that United's greatest concern is maximizing the revenue from the fee we pay by multiplying the number of buyers by the fee. Wouldn't we all love to know how those numbers have been shaking out over the years? They must have felt they could justify the big hike last year. Wonder how it worked out for them. We could start a thread of flyertalkers who bought all the other years and whether they bought last year or not. Extrapolate. Etc. Keeping us busy until our fate is cast.

Don't forget, though, that UA is about to lose a bunch of C seats when it upgrades its fleet. Then there may be more disgruntled 1Ks, and it wouldn't be totally crazy to try to nip some of that in the bud now. But that extra revenue must be hard to pass up, and is a filter catching some extra customers who will be more likely to fly the next year.

It is true that UA will start to loose some C seats, but it is important to remember that the aircraft retrofitting will take three years, so the impact will be only marginal in the first year. I agree with you that UA must want the extra revenue that comes from this offer.

Come on UA.. my credit card is ready to go..:)

Wow, just think about the UA people that lurk here that are making a lot of people squirm.
You want to be guaranteed status? Big secret revealed here, fly the miles.
Maybe they want to see how many actually try to book flights so they can earn status. My crystal ball says...... Nov 7.
Good luck to all you dreamers. :D

It's now Oct 5. Looks like UA is not going to run the double EQM promo in Oct.

Methinks it will be Oct 8 or Oct 15. United were running some promos that ended on Oct 5 - so I'm thinking that the DEQM will be released after that to avoid confusion  In 2005, I got the email on 10/18.

Not to add fuel to the fire here, but I just got off the phone with a VERY helpful CSR at the 1K desk in Detroit. While trying to find award availability for a specific set of flights, I asked about whether she knew if the DEQM promo was going to happen again or not. She said, "You know, lots of people has been asking me that, and we haven't heard anything about it. Usually we hear rumors about it, so the fact that we haven't even heard any rumors here makes me think they aren't going to do it again this year..." Of course, she could be 100% wrong - and I hope she is.

Just one more data point to add to the list...

And throwing in another...

Tilton announced that they had a great Q3 (see http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/071005/unite...ding.html?.v=1 ), so perhaps they'll take a pass this year so that we all don't expect it each year.

Speaking for myself - I'll need the D-EQM to get 1K, as bizness is down significantly & might not come back until Q1 '08. Of course if they don't do it, I've still got 1P being MM - and some extra $$ in my pocket because if I can't hit 1K I'm not booking any trips overseas like I would if they did run the program.

My cloudy crystal ball says if they do announce it it will be more along the lines of the 15th.

Cheers.

If they do not do the Double EQM offer, then United is going to forego a lot of revenue and loss of ticket purchases. For example, assume there are 10,000 people whom sign up for the promo at $500 per person. The registration fees alone amounts to $5 million. If each person paying for the promo spends $1000 on tickets, the company has another $10 million. So the total alone would be $15 million added to Quarter 4 revenue. Why would United not want to increase their revenue and profits?

You really think 10,000 people? Hey United folks what do you think? Paging United Skies, or is this one you can't comment on?

This is only an educated guess, but I gather the number and the revenue must be substantial, or else United would not repeatedly offer this promo.

I agree, UA is going to do what makes money. The DEQM policy makes money, so my bet is that they GO!

I can understand this. For some of us who will be very close to the next level, though, the DEQM is a great option. I'm one of those this year. With it, I tip 1K. Without, I probably won't.
