Personally the NW system had a far better user interface, but was not kept, despite the IT teams being all headed by PMNW staff. Companies do what they want and then pay the price far later after the bonuses are paid.

If anyone needs to feel more scared about this, take a look at the hundreds of people currently incorrectly listed as CO Presidential Plats: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...nums-well.html
This was confirmed to be an error by UA Insider well over 24 hours ago and is still happening. It's not just a display issue either; it is showing up on boarding cards and is overwhelming the Presidential Plat phone queue.
The earlier post in this thread about this being a mainframe driven system which can only be modified offline is ringing especially true right about now...

Keith is that you?
Channa, I would think you were Keith Halbert if I didn't know he signed a million dollar+ non disclosure so people won't second guess CO dba UA IT decisions. When the March 2012 integration disaster occurs, I hope someone will remind the board of directors they were warned.
I don't think it is exaggeration or hyperbole to state that the shares decision and implementation could doom the merger and cause customers to leave faster than the Summer from Hell. There is a reason an EVP goes over his boss's head to the BOD.

Does it give you change for any unused portion that you can use later?
No - but I have always chosen flights where I would not require "change" and in fact had to contribute a small dollar amount.

I think there is one limitation or bug in SHARES that works out to be slightly positive - because award tickets retain the FF number of the account that issued them, the system keeps the status of the issuer on the reservation. So when giving tickets to family members, they may select E+ without having the Elite member traveling with them in the same PNR. There also isn't the automated sweep that removes them from E+ if the computer detects they don't have status/payment. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe PMUA would have those members sit in E-. I believe it works for baggage allowances as well.
That being said, it seems clear the United system is much easier to train and use for everyday tasks. I'm still surprised they decided to take such a large step backwards.

You forget one critical fact - PMCO owns SHARES, so they chose the cheaper option. The management team needs to make sure the combined airline makes money, and in the current economic climate, cutting costs is huge. That adotping this system airline wide will make life difficult for employees and frustrate customers was probably considered, oh, about 15 minutes.

If this post is any indication, it's going to stay ugly for a long time, not just the immediate changeover

Also echoing the nice job comments, channa ^
Aircraft number is on the flight status page, so you can see it from two days out. On co.com (and mobile.united.com now) you can see specific cabin configurations and amenities for that aircraft, including E+, DirecTV / AVOD, etc. It's extremely useful and accurate in my experience using it over the last few years.
Aircraft number is slowly being added for UA metal operated flights, from what I can see, but not the corresponding amenities yet. So in the future there should be no need for the non-intuitive solution of going to a cargo website.
But the one nice feature of UnitedCargo was that one could see their flight a week out which was a major heads on on a/c swaps
Thank you for the list channa. I've never flown or had to deal with CO so information like this is certainly helpful to us newbies. ^
I have one for the list. Since they will be going with the CO website, does that mean we will lose the functionality of unitedcargo.com to determine the type of aircraft in figuring out old configuration vs. new configuration? Was there a similar CO site? It might be helpful to determine if you'll be on the one CO plane with E+.

Are we really sure about this? It certainly doesn't match with my experience. I've seen rampers scanning bags when loading plenty of times when flying CO. And the few times that CO has lost my bags, both the airport agents and Elite Baggage Resolution Desk (something that UA does not have, except for 1Ks) have been able to accurately tell me where my bags were.

At this point it is anyone's guess which policy will remain after 3 Mar 2012.
