Per an insider that posts on the ORD T5 thread, the PreCheck lanes have finally opened at T5 or at least will be open in time for DLs big move to T5 in less than two weeks.

If on the evening ORD-IST flight, the SK lounge (serviceable, not great) can be used to soak up any extra 'safety' time (opens 1230).
Precheck is open at T5, has been open for many months.

From my experiences I think this is a good estimate of time for each step. TSA can be faster with precheck (TK does participate, supposedly). Personally I would not get to the gate a full 55 minutes before the flight, but that is my preference.

Assuming you have boarding pass in hand and either no checked luggage or it's checked through, I would aim to arrive at T5 about 1 hour before my flight, so I'd probably leave the lounge at 1h20m or 1h30m before.
If you're on a carrier with a VERY strict T-30 cutoff (i.e. they would offload a checked-in connecting pax who is not delayed at T-30) then maybe a few minutes earlier.

I think the worst I've ever had is about 15 minutes, but more typical is 5-10 min. T5 apparently gets more apparently infrequent flyers who have pre, so sometimes you get people in front of you just standing around doing ??? rather than efficiently moving along and that is when it could be over ten minutes to get through.

It looks like AUS to ORD are all mainline aircraft which means B or C gates. Fifty seven minutes is doable especially since flights generally arrive early in decent weather. Are you on the early or late LHR flight? If the early one, in the odd chance you miss it you still have another a couple hours or so later.

ORD Int'l Connection - Questions
I think my bookings here are going to make it difficult for me. I'll be flying from KEF Reykjavík into ORD Chicago on Icelandair on one booking. The current arrival time into terminal 5 at ORD is 6:20PM. I have a completely different booking on a different airline for my connection home. This is on United Airlines and will likely be departing from ORD terminal 1. My connection is very short as my terminal 1 departure is at 7:45PM. So I don't even have 90 minutes (on paper) to make it. Can someone help walk me through step-by step with what I'll be doing after I touch down in Chicago? I know I'll be going through passport control, customs, etc. But any detailed info would be awesome. After I gather my checked luggage, can I recheck it immediately with United at terminal 5 for a terminal 1 departure? Can I then take the ATS to terminal 1 efficiently? I'd love to be able to get to terminal 1 without my checked bag in hand. Anyway, if someone can graciously provide me with a detailed step-by-step instruction list to help me efficiently manage this short connection, I would be very grateful! Thanks in advance!

You will be hard press to make it to the UA bag checkin , 45 minutes before departure. Is the bag small enough for carry-on?
Do you have GE and/or TSA PreCheck? USA Passport?
Will move to the ORD Connections thread, for others to provide more details

Some other miscellaneous tips:
- the train going T5 to T1 will be on the "outer" track (the one farther from the terminal);
- the T5 platform can be accessed from either side, but the T1 platform has only an escalator at the "back" of the train (in the direction of travel when going T5 to T1, southeast side of platform), so to be first up to the bridge at T1 go for the back car when boarding;
- if you haven't GE/pre status, it will be difficult to make the connection, but try using mobile passport to improve your chances of making it;
- if you do miss the flight, plead for forgiveness and see if they will rebook you on the next one (any overnight is obviously your responsibility).
Good luck.

OP: 57 minutes is tight, but not impossible, if you do end up unlucky enough to arrive into E/F.
