https://www.bizjournals.com/sanfranc...rnational.html
Article is behind a paywall, but the highlights:- Construction begins July 1 and will last five years
- United will soon operate out of six gates in T2
- Gates F1-F4 will be rebuilt as five narrowbody or three widebody, FIS-capable swing gates that will no longer be exclusively UA gates
- Airside access between T3 and Int'l Terminal G will remain open
- The two security checkpoints in T3 will be consolidated into one (I don't think this was part of the original scope of the project)
- Once Alaska moves to T1 this summer, United "will consider" temporarily taking over the Alaska lounge
- United is looking for a larger club space between T2 and T3 for a permanent club (in addition to the existing one in B/A E)
- No mention of whether the rotunda club will undergo a renovation
- No mention of any renovation of gates F5-F22 (I don't think this is part of the project at all)

he Terminal 3 West modernization project is underway! Stay tuned to the Terminal 3 Construction page for the latest updates as this project takes flight.
As we transform the west portion of the terminal, please be advised of the following closures and passenger impacts related to ongoing construction.
Dropping off - Doors 6, 7, and 8 are closed at the Terminal 3 Departures curb.- If no bags to check, drop off at Terminal 2 and proceed through the checkpoint.
- Premier customers with bags, drop off at Premier, near doors 2 - 3; check in at Premier lobby
- Economy customers with bags, drop off at Economy, near doors 10 - 13; check in at Economy lobby
- Or, consider dropping off at the Rental Car Center and then taking the AirTrain to avoid congestion.
- No bags to check? Get off at Terminal 2 AirTrain Station, cross bridge, and use the T2 Checkpoint
- Checking bags? Get off at Terminal 3 AirTrain Station; down one level, go into the parking garage, take the elevators to Level 1, and follow walking paths to either the E or F/G walkways for Premier or Economy check-in areas.
- The F walkway from the Domestic Garage is closed - follow signs to the E walkway to navigate to the elevators.
- United Premier guests can use core E at parking garage level 1 for terminal access.
- United Economy guests use core F/G at parking garage level 1 for terminal access.
- Interim post-security walkways are in place allowing passengers to traverse between all the terminals and boarding areas around the Terminal 3 construction site. One walkway is located in Terminal 3 by Gate E2 and ends in the rotunda food court and F Gates area in Terminal 3. The second section runs from the food court and F Gates to an existing post-security walkway to the International Terminal G gates.
- From Canada and Ireland - If you checked bags, they will be checked to their final destination, you do not need to go to baggage claim. All connecting passengers: do not exit the secure area; follow the signs to your connecting gate.
- All other international passengers will need to clear customs and collect all checked bags. Follow the "Connections" sign to exit the Customs Hall and turn left. United customers can re-check their bags in the re-check lobby, then proceed to their gates.
- For E, F or G Gates - Follow the signs to the International Terminal G Security Checkpoint.
- For D Gates Either use the International G Security checkpoint OR Take the AirTrain (Red Line) to Terminal 2 and use the Terminal 2/ D Gates Security checkpoint.
- For A Gates - Follow signs toward International Terminal A Security Checkpoint
- For B&C Gates - follow signs to the Harvey Milk Terminal 1 Security Checkpoint
Use the International Terminal G Security Checkpoint and follow signs to Terminal 3, American Express Lounge.
Temporary Centurion Lounge is located at T2, Concourse D. Located right after the security checkpoint near Compass Books and Napa Farms Market.

That's maybe a little harsh. I actually know some of their social media team, and I know they're trying to do a good job and be communicative. I might have a personal bias, but I do think they're more transparent about this whole thing than a lot of other airports – good luck trying to figure out through DEN's social media how to get through there.Originally Posted by Infinite1K
Sigh. The FlySFO Social Media team should be fired. Their post shows these two tiles:
The Instagram post is accurate and detailed, as is the website. It's only the cross post to Threads that got cut off, but there is a link in it to the Instagram post.

Agree it's a bit harsh, but it does have consequences.Originally Posted by char777

It's a double edged sword -- on one hand the error makes it read worse than reality, so if I saw that and then showed up at SFO expecting the walk to be closed I'd be pleasantly surprised to find it open (assuming traveling at reasonable times)... On the other hand, I I *just* saw the Threads post (as I did originally until other posters linked the other content) I would --and did -- think *welp, yet another reason to avoid SFO .. do I have any reservations I can move?" (Being on the East half of the country there are maybe 4 trips a year where SFO could possibly make sense as a connection point, so it's not an airport I follow closely) And a traveler should not have to dig through multiple sources (or multiple social media sites) to get the whole story, particularly when it doesn't seem from what I saw like anything was missing.

Otherwise, completely agree (and generally avoid social media for anything beyond idle entertainment)

My trip last week I noticed staff stationed at all the construction detours to help direct people. Don't recall seeing this before. Unfortunately, they wear little construction vests or something and it's not clear that what they are there for. A simple "ask me" pin or something would remedy that...Originally Posted by Kacee

What is the best strategy for Arrivals to pick up someone arriving at F gates no luggage?
Should they hike to the E gates and then somehow out to the curb? Or should I send them to towards the F/G exit?

not a lot of experience specifically with this, but Id guess walking out to T2 exit is better. Even without construction, especially at peak times, T3 arrival roadway is a complete mess. Originally Posted by Boraxo

Yes T3 is awful but T2 was even more of a mess last time I arrived and the curb real estate is tiny. What I would like to know is where the F/G corridor dumps passengers. Can you walk out to the T3 curb (presumably near the end of T3) or do you have to walk over to G? And it was completely fubar last time I tried to go from lower level to upper level landside. We really need to add a Domestic Arrivals section to the Wiki as well as an updated map that shows the temporary corridor from F gates -> E/F arrivals. I remember seeing the map.

T2 is probably better....tell them to follow signs to D gates, then walk to the left past the security check point and continue to the exit further down. Avoid going down escalator towards baggage...Originally Posted by emcampbe

If I were that passenger, Id ask to be picked up at Intl Terminal G. Its a long walk either way. Originally Posted by Boraxo

Not that theres necessarily has less traffic there, but at least the loop is shorter for the driver, and once picked up, its relatively quick exit from the airport.

Yes, that was kind of my thinking. And yes, I did find a small traffic backup at noon on the upper level (prime time for the afternoon departures) but it was not completely gridlocked as I saw in the domestic terminal at peak times. The flow is much better.Originally Posted by econ

On the minus side, T1 arrivals provides a few nice spots to hide from the overzealous traffic cops, but there is nowhere to hide at the International terminal, and T3 are vicious.

I would also suggest G, noting that G arrivals gets pretty backed up in the morning and G departures can be a big mess in the evening. Outside of those periods, it's pretty quiet.Originally Posted by econ

The other option I'd suggest is parking in the main garage; you bear left immediately once you enter the airport and should be able to avoid the traffic in the loop both coming and going. If you park on the 1st level it's a straight shot into the terminals through the tunnels.
Either one of these options should be better than a T2 or T3 pick-up during any period of heavy traffic. Noting that much depends on day of week and time of day.

For sure it was tonight! The upper level departures was much better, despite the construction there, too.Originally Posted by dkc192

Even domestic gets really backed up. I have had to wait for 30 minutes earlier this month for a gate coming from ATL on UA on the night flight. Last month we also had to wait for like 30-60 minutes (I forgot exactly) after landing from KOA (UA1722) --> I think that the domestic side sometimes even has more congestion.
