multi-leg will more easily bring out broken fares (looks like a different booking class on each segment) than looking for a one-way

It was on 016. As indicated in my post, NBO-FRA was in E, but FRA-IAD was in A. Is LH's E class equivalent to UA's A class? LH's equivalence of UA's R class is not eligible for upgrade.

As I expected this upgrade came through quickly. I have no clue why UA just won't publish PZ space but usually when the flight is PN9 PZ0 you will clear within a day. It remains true today. Got the upgrade about 2 hours after booking the ticket as part of an east coast -> Singapore via Tokyo flight. SFO-SIN has zero chance of clearing so I avoided it and the ticket was actually cheaper. Of course it does require a 7.5 hour flight in coach on ANA but I'm fine with that.
I still have over 100 PlusPoints expiring July 31. I'm either buying business class on the return or hoping for HND-EWR or HND-IAD to clear in late July. Both are PN0 PZ0 but wide open up front.

PP way oversold, with between 5 and 7 J seats shown as blocked in the 2 days leading up to the flight. I cleared w 3 others from the list in an early am sweep two nights before the flight. None of the names of those who cleared into the blocked seats appeared as successfully upgraded on the list, they were just dropped from the list.
I’m going to end up missing the flight due to a connecting flight delay, but thankfully the 1K desk honored my upgrade and booked me in J on tomorrow’s flight.

I'm just looking at relative cost in dollars vs various other options to get to SIN in J (other carriers, mileage awards, etc.). Close-in fares are usually significantly higher. For instance, I can fly TK in J for 4.3K (10 JUL-23 JUL) right now to SIN from EWR, admittedly with a long layover in IST, so paying 2K+ for a UA flight in coach and hoping to use my PPs is less attractive on a relative basis.

This one replaces my earlier post as I moved my flights back by a day. IAD-HND was PN6 PZ0 when I got on the flight and I thought I'd clearly pretty quickly. All I cleared was RN at booking. Next day the flight goes to PN0 which was odd as the seat map didn't change at all. Two days after that it goes to PN9 PZ0 and still nobody cleared. Finally ~56 hours before the flight I got notified that I cleared. I was #3 of 4 on the list. Three of us cleared and #4 is still stuck there. A lesson in patience for sure...
Flight was 27/50 and now 30/50 after 3 cleared. PremPlus still wide open (O9) with 9 open (15/24).
