So I made a push to make Platinum this year and received the 40 PlusPoints, which I have been unable to use (much like everyone else). We go on one international trip/year ("Spring Break"), but in 2022 we want to BCN and there wasn't Premium Economy on that route. (We had been trying to go to return to Japan to visit Osaka/Kyoto for the past three years, but obviously haven't been able to get in.) We were looking at a couple of different destinations in Asia for next Spring Break, including Osaka again, but finally decided to book Tokyo this afternoon for a variety of reasons (including making better use of my Marriott Platinum status, which I just squeaked out again this year) and booked a pair in E- in the back of the 789. Wasn't a deal, but usually we have our Spring Break booked by now, but have been unable to find a deal anywhere we want to go on UA metal for our very specific dates.

Anyway, decided to play around with the Upgrades tab to see what the various options were this evening and I finally noticed that PlusPoints were confirmable for Premium Economy on the HND-LAX redeye return. Since my PlusPoints expire this year, I didn't think I could use them for next Spring, so I wasn't really trusting it all when I hit the confirm button. Very excited that this all worked out to a very good advantage for us. We've sat in these seats a couple of times on domestic flights, so we know the hard product, and are very happy to have the extra space/service on this redeye. And I'm dumbfounded that this worked out when I didn't even think it was a viable option.
