Active thread; UA-Schedule changes; +25% TATL 2022 capacity, Q2 TPAC down 65% vs 2019; June changes

UA publishes a schedule for 330 days in advance (called Beginning of Schedule) and in the past would make tweaks quarterly and things would be fairly settles 3-4 months out. Updates would occur Friday evening / Saturday morning (Chicago time). Routine additions could occur anytime.

However, during the COVID era, UA has gone to a more dynamic and shorter-term setting of schedule (as has the other carriers). Presently UA, while UA is still publishing a schedule for 330 days in advance it reflects pre-COVID operational levels and is considered just a placeholder schedule. Then 3-5 weeks prior to a month, UA makes a major update of that month's schedule.

Examples (Major updates)
The October 2020 schedule was updated 4-5 September 2020
The November 2020 schedule was updated 2-3 October 2020
The December 2020 schedule was updated 30-31 October 2020
Holidays can move the major date a week earlier or later.
Weekly updates are still generally done over night Friday-Saturday (Chicago)

UA does not publish a summary of most schedule changes but a variety of sources below do and summaries / links of those sources can be found in this thread & wiki.

Change Fees "Are Gone For Good"(Worldwide ex-USA,non-BE),waiver til March2021 for all

Change Fees Are Gone For Good
The only thing constant is change and at United Airlines, some of the fees associated with changes related to flying are gone for good. The carrier announced today that it is permanently getting rid of change fees on all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S., effective immediately. And starting on January 1, 2021, any United customer can fly standby for free, regardless of fare type, on a flight departing the day of their travel, a first among U.S. carriers, while MileagePlus® Premier® members can confirm a seat on a different flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket if a seat in the same ticket fare class is available.

United is also extending its waiver for new tickets issued through December 31, 2020, to permit unlimited changes with no fee. This policy applies to all ticket types issued after March 3, 2020 and is valid for domestic and international travel.

The new change fee policy applies to all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S. 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and customers will not be limited in the number of times they adjust their flights.

Additionally, United is giving customers more flexibility to change their flights on the day of their travel so they can head home if a meeting ends earlier or enjoy a few more hours on vacation. With the ability to list for same-day standby for free, customers will now have an option to take a different flight with the same origin and destination airports as their original itinerary if space is available at departure. This enhanced option will be available to all customers for travel within the U.S. and to and from international destinations beginning on January 1, 2021. Customers who want to switch flights will be able to add themselves to the standby list through United’s award-winning mobile app, on united.com or at the airport no later than 30 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and one hour before departure on international flights.

The carrier is also improving the travel experience for its MileagePlus members including waiving all redeposit fees on award travel for flights changed or cancelled more than 30 days before departure and allowing all MileagePlus Premier members to confirm a different flight on the day of their travel. As a way to thank MileagePlus Premier members for their loyalty, beginning January 1, 2021, all Premier members will be able to confirm a seat for free on a different flight with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket. This expanded option will allow MileagePlus Silver members and above to confirm a new seat in the same ticket fare class if space is available. Earlier this year, United announced that it will extend status for MileagePlus Premier and United Global Services® members through January 2022. United also reduced thresholds for Premier qualification by 50 percent for each status level, to make reaching an even higher status tier easier.

The return of the second late SFO-FRA-SFO flights would be good news for Westcoast fliers as well.

As others mention prior, most likely will be cancelled. However, the above is as of yesterday.
Got moved from the a.m. SFO-SIN to the evening flight pre-Xmas, then new flight cancelled as well. Now waiting for SIN-SFO second week of Jan to cxl as well.

PVG-EWR for January cancelled

Here is an extra slot at EWR. UA has cancelled PVG-EWR for January 2022. Fortunately, I grabbed PVG-EWR-RIC for a 35K saver economy award a week earlier. Now, UA charges 250K miles for PVG-(ICN)-SFO-EWR-RIC in economy. What a shame for charging so many miles when the plane is very empty.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to ask this, but did UA scale back its flights to Singapore? I was tracking a bunch of flights in 2022 and I got a notification that the flights were no longer "active".

Presently no SFO-SIN service (daily) until 4 Jan 2022 it will continue to be pushed back until SIN allows Americas to travel.
Second daily is "presently scheduled" for 26 March 2022

This explains everything then. How come I was able to search up the prices as recent as 3 weeks ago or so for spring 2022 if daily service has been suspended?

UA is adjusting schedules regularly and may have changed the SIN schedule recently.
Since service is "scheduled" to restart in January, you should see prices for January but if you were look for the second daily flight UA29/28 it is not available until late March

However any service by UA is dependent on SIN opening up

United Plans Largest Domestic Schedule Since March 2020

December schedule includes new connections between the Midwest and warm weather cities like Las Vegas and Orlando as well as nearly 70 daily flights to ski destinations, including new service between Orange County and Aspen

Airline will fly 3,500 daily domestic flights in December - the most since the start of the pandemic and 91% of its December 2019 domestic schedule - to support expected surge in holiday travel demand

CHICAGO, Oct. 7, 2021 /PRNewswire/ --
United today announced that it will fly its biggest domestic schedule since the start of the pandemic to meet an expected surge in holiday travel, with an emphasis on connecting the Midwest to warm weather cities like Las Vegas and Orlando as well as offering nearly 70 daily flights to ski destinations, including new service between Orange County and Aspen.

According to United, holiday travel flight searches on united.com and the airline's app are up 16%, compared to 2019. The airline expects the busiest travel days for the Thanksgiving holiday will be Wednesday, November 24 and Sunday, November 28, while popular days for winter holiday travel are expected to be Thursday, December 23 and Sunday, January 2.
The airline plans to offer more than 3,500 daily domestic flights in December, representing 91% of its domestic capacity compared to 2019.

"We're seeing a lot of pent-up demand in our data and are offering a December schedule that centers on the two things people want most for the holidays: warm sunshine and fresh snow," said Ankit Gupta, vice president of network planning and scheduling at United. "We know families and friends are eager to reunite this holiday season, which is why we're thrilled to add new flights that will help them connect and celebrate together."

In December, United will begin new direct flights to Las Vegas and Phoenix from Cleveland, and to Orlando from Indianapolis. The carrier also will resume eight popular direct flights from Midwest cities, including routes to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa, offering the most departures the airline has flown from Cleveland since 2014 including direct service to Nassau and Cancun. United will offer up to 195 daily flights to 12 destinations in Florida this winter, the most flights to the Sunshine State in company history. United is also resuming direct flights from Columbus, Indianapolis, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh to Fort Myers – which were some of the airline's most popular point-to-point flights last winter.

Customers who prefer fresh powder can enjoy more flights to ski destinations with United than any other carrier. The airline offers 66 daily flights to over a dozen ski destinations across the U.S., including brand new service beginning this December between Orange County and Aspen. This winter season, United will have flights to Aspen/Snowmass, Mammoth, Bozeman/Big Sky, Eagle/Vail, Kalispell, Gunnison/Crested Butte, Hayden/Steamboat Springs, Jackson Hole, Montrose/Telluride, Reno/Tahoe, Sun Valley from its hub airports.

Earlier this year, United announced that it will add 150 flights to warm-weather destinations this winter season. All of these flights and more are available now on united.com and United's mobile app.
United Airlines set to fly on 91% of pre-pandemic level ahead of holiday season
  • United Airlines Holdings (NASDAQ:UAL) says it will fly its biggest domestic schedule since the start of the pandemic to meet expected surge in holiday travel demand.
  • The airline will offer over 3,500 daily domestic flights in December that translates 91% of capacity compared to 2019, with plans on connecting the Midwest to warm weather cities like Las Vegas and Orlando.
  • About 70 daily flights will be offered to ski destinations, including new service between Orange County and Aspen
appears this is "91%" of domestic 2019 schedule, but much more leisure focus

Looking to book an upcoming flight and thought the red-eye would be somewhat wide open. Checked last nights LAX-EWR flight for comparison purposes and only 1 open seat in the whole back of the plane. Looks like it went out 99% full.

Indeed. Business-heavy routes continue to get hammered, Just got hit with January schedule changes BOS-SFO going down by 50% and 752 ---> 739 except the once a day 752 that is flying right now. Of course after the schedule change all flights are J0, so not sure how UA is planning this 'right' to be honest. Same with with x-mas travel where you see J0Y0 more than 2 months out. Someone must think this makes sense ... not sure how.

As cfisher mentioned…Big update last night, schedule updated for Jan 4th to Feb 11, 2022.

These updates stay mostly advantageous to me…Another CR2 became an E175 for me in mid-Jan.

Yeah, late January changes. IAH-DEN #1515 aircraft changed from 767 to 737-900, and now departs one hour earlier. Currently being operated by polarized 767-300ER. Lost our chances at flying domestic “Polaris”, but I know that may have changed along the way. Also the one-way upgrade went up from $129 to $392 per person. So now I wish I had paid for the upgrade 2 days ago.
