Active thread; UA-Schedule changes; +25% TATL 2022 capacity, Q2 TPAC down 65% vs 2019; June changes

UA publishes a schedule for 330 days in advance (called Beginning of Schedule) and in the past would make tweaks quarterly and things would be fairly settles 3-4 months out. Updates would occur Friday evening / Saturday morning (Chicago time). Routine additions could occur anytime.

However, during the COVID era, UA has gone to a more dynamic and shorter-term setting of schedule (as has the other carriers). Presently UA, while UA is still publishing a schedule for 330 days in advance it reflects pre-COVID operational levels and is considered just a placeholder schedule. Then 3-5 weeks prior to a month, UA makes a major update of that month's schedule.

Examples (Major updates)
The October 2020 schedule was updated 4-5 September 2020
The November 2020 schedule was updated 2-3 October 2020
The December 2020 schedule was updated 30-31 October 2020
Holidays can move the major date a week earlier or later.
Weekly updates are still generally done over night Friday-Saturday (Chicago)

UA does not publish a summary of most schedule changes but a variety of sources below do and summaries / links of those sources can be found in this thread & wiki.

Always crosscheck with UA's Travel Notices , Coronavirus (COVID-19) travel waivers and information, www.united.com/coronavirus as the situation is dynamic

Change Fees "Are Gone For Good"(Worldwide ex-USA,non-BE),waiver til March2021 for all

Change Fees Are Gone For Good
The only thing constant is change and at United Airlines, some of the fees associated with changes related to flying are gone for good. The carrier announced today that it is permanently getting rid of change fees on all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S., effective immediately. And starting on January 1, 2021, any United customer can fly standby for free, regardless of fare type, on a flight departing the day of their travel, a first among U.S. carriers, while MileagePlus® Premier® members can confirm a seat on a different flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket if a seat in the same ticket fare class is available.

United is also extending its waiver for new tickets issued through December 31, 2020, to permit unlimited changes with no fee. This policy applies to all ticket types issued after March 3, 2020 and is valid for domestic and international travel.

The new change fee policy applies to all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S. 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and customers will not be limited in the number of times they adjust their flights.

Additionally, United is giving customers more flexibility to change their flights on the day of their travel so they can head home if a meeting ends earlier or enjoy a few more hours on vacation. With the ability to list for same-day standby for free, customers will now have an option to take a different flight with the same origin and destination airports as their original itinerary if space is available at departure. This enhanced option will be available to all customers for travel within the U.S. and to and from international destinations beginning on January 1, 2021. Customers who want to switch flights will be able to add themselves to the standby list through United’s award-winning mobile app, on united.com or at the airport no later than 30 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and one hour before departure on international flights.

The carrier is also improving the travel experience for its MileagePlus members including waiving all redeposit fees on award travel for flights changed or cancelled more than 30 days before departure and allowing all MileagePlus Premier members to confirm a different flight on the day of their travel. As a way to thank MileagePlus Premier members for their loyalty, beginning January 1, 2021, all Premier members will be able to confirm a seat for free on a different flight with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket. This expanded option will allow MileagePlus Silver members and above to confirm a new seat in the same ticket fare class if space is available. Earlier this year, United announced that it will extend status for MileagePlus Premier and United Global Services® members through January 2022. United also reduced thresholds for Premier qualification by 50 percent for each status level, to make reaching an even higher status tier easier.

We’re extending electronic certificatesTo give you more flexibility when you travel, electronic certificates are now valid for 24 months from the date they were issued. This includes all currently valid electronic certificates and all new ones issued on or after April 1, 2020.

No November ZRH-IAD flights???

I looked at booking XXX-IAD-ZRH round trip flights today and couldn’t find any return flights from ZRH via IAD (UA53) for the November dates I wanted. No problem finding my usual flight going to ZRH via IAD (UA52). All of the returns I saw today were via EWR. Is this a glitch or some new kind of scheduling?

It's in the timetable as 6x weekly. Are you returning on a Tuesday? Otherwise, I see the flight.

Yes, trying to return on a Tuesday. My usual pattern. Never had a problem with that in years.

Yeah, UA53 is not operating on Tuesdays right now. Not a glitch, unfortunately.

So I've been booking flights for my family to go to Dublin from SFO next summer and just ran into a snag. My sister's family/mom are flying Aer Lingus which appears to be fine. I booked return saver space for my brother's family on the non-stop UA flight from DUB to SFO on July 8th and have been watching the outbound flights to see if they drop back down to saver pricing. Today I searched and that flight is gone. The return flight got changed to a DUB-ORD-SFO routing. I looked at the dates and Lufthansa seems to be selling tickets for this still...

What am I missing? According to that article just posted summer to Ireland especially from SFO seems like a weird route to cut...

SFO-DUB is not returning for Summer 2022. This was quietly announced along with the fanfare for the new Summer 2022 routes and expansion yesterday.

Thanks for the heads up, I missed that. Moved the return flight to EI(for 24k more points). Will figure out the best routing for them. Looks like it's a layover in ORD, EWR, or LHR. All seems like routes that won't get cancelled barring another global catastrophe.

According to the article below, March 2022. Specifically it states, "The airline will also resume Denver-Frankfurt and Denver-London service in March, along with Newark-Porto, Portugal, and Dulles-Lisbon service will come back in the summer."

I already know both services exist, though that first sfgate article two posts above is incorrect because UA’s DEN-FRA/FRA-DEN flight resumed sometime ago and I’m actually scheduled to fly on it soon. BA’s flights between LHR and DEN resumed in Sep but not UA’s.

I’m traveling to Europe in Nov on UA/LH, with my final journey being from LHR but I have to connect in MUC since there aren’t any nonstop UA flights between LHR and DEN. Was hoping it might come back soon so I can make LHR-DEN nonstop. So that’s kind of disappointing but oh well.

I'm looking at booking a flight in November around the 17th/18th and I see that one of the options has UA 933 which doesn't look like its flown since March last year. Are they adding that flight back in or is it likely to get cancelled as it gets closer?

So, I assume you mean flights between FRA and IAD? Is it really important to fly that specific flight / flight number or simply between FRA and IAD?

UA is currently flying that route right now. At around the time of the old flight number. Just not that flight number.
