It was quite tasty although the name of the flavor is humorous -- strawberry and clotted cream ice cream. Does that mean that there was double cream? Was it just clotted cream flavoring with the ice cream? Either way was pretty good

The new three-step Polaris meal service is expanding on May 1st to include:

SFO-FRA
IAD-AMM
DEN-FRA
LAX-LHR

It will also continue on EWR/ORD-DEL, all flights to/from TLV, and all other hubs to FRA.

Slight clarification ... DEL and TLV will receive the brand new dining concept / menus as test markets. Other markets listed will have the restored three step meal service with the same Short Rib / Salmon / Pasta entree choice and an expanded dessert service with pre-topped ice-cream and cake.

Can someone explain to me that why the three-step approach cannot be rolled out systemwide? I understand the challenges may be in the foreign locations, but there should be consistency out of the US hubs.

Because UA wants to test the waters and get lots of feedback first so they can determine the absolute minimum level of service that they can get away with without losing too many customers.

Will this include both directions? Specifically asking about FRA -> SFO.

Any reports on IAD-MAD? Flying in a few weeks and was going to eat in the Polaris Lounge before the flight but just read the reviews for the IAD PL and they seemed underwhelming.

Good thing once I arrive food around Spain will be fantastic.

Its more challenging than it used to be since the transition of the catering in the US to several different vendors, as opposed to Chelsea. Gate Gourmet, Newrest, and Sky Cafe have taken over those operations.

As I understand it, Gate Gourmet is overseeing the Polaris menu redesign and the routes chosen to test seem to be where Gate Gourmet handles catering operations at both ends, such as FRA, LHR, EWR.

Every single longhaul route departing the USA is the same, except that chicken is substituted for fish on the Africa routes (ACC, CPT, JNB).

Choices are pasta, fish, or beef short ribs.

Curious detail. Any idea is that responsive to cultural (anti-)preferences or due to some other consideration?

I really don't know - it's a fair question and I don't understand it.

I should have added above that India and Israel routes now have new menus.

The FA on my CDG-IAD flight took my meal order by asking do you want beef, chicken or pasta. While on my LH and AF flights I get presented with a menu.
