Either that or special cargo-only services during this time of depressed passenger demand.

Over the past week, there have been four 789 roundtrips as UA 2769 SFO-TLV, and the returning as UA2770 TLV-SFO
Non-revenue flights, almost certainly cargo runs (at least 15 RTs in past two months
5 hour turns at TLV

update: list as a cargo run in Widebody Schedule May 5-18-20
Note there are frequent EWR-TLV cargo flights also

They are not bookable for passenger service. Some cargo may be in the passenger cabins and there are no flight attendants, and there are other changes from passenger flights.

Why is there even a need for flight attendants on cargo-only planes? It comes down to safety. While cargo holds have sophisticated detectors in case any cargo catches fire, in the passenger cabin the systems work differently, since they’re not generally designed for cargo.
....

So this is a safety decision to be sure that the cargo can be transported safely in the cabin.

Why The Daily Flight LAX to GUM?

That use to originate in IAH to HNL to GUM to HK. Is this a freight run? I'd be surprised if there is that much military transaction between LAX and GUM.

It is a freight run. The aircraft continues on to PVG.

Lots of Guam west coast flights lately

I’ve noticed on flight radar a lot of ua flights from and to GUM. Cargo I assume. Any ideas about these. 787 and 777 aircraft

I noticed a 789 doing a IAH-AMS-IAH cargo run last week and thereafter doing a regular pax flight.
The quick turnaround (cargo>pax) was impressive. I imagine the pax area was not used for cargo, such as boxes
piled on seats in this case.

I don’t know why UA doesn’t just use every widebody at their disposal for cargo. At this point that is where the bread is being buttered and they have more widebodies than anyone.

Pretty sure they are doing this with every opportunity they can find.

United is flying the crap out of its 787s and 777-300ERs right now for cargo service, with incremental pax where possible. This won't last forever, but cargo revenue is up 36% year over year and comprised about 27% of United's operating revenues in the quarter, compared to around 2.5% in Q2 last year. It's pretty remarkable...

By comparison, Delta's cargo revenue actually declined in the quarter (yoy), to about $100m; only around 6% of operating revenue (~1.5% normally). This is one area where United is really excelling.
