Appears part of regular LAX-GUM-PVG routing, LAX-GUM-PVG as ferry (UA27xx) returning from PVG with cargo (UA28xx)

connecting via GUM allows for easier turn in PVG

UA has received permission to use overhead bins and closets in the passenger cabin to carry cargo.

Cargo compartments have fire suppression systems and passenger cabins do not, so if cargo is loaded into passenger cabin - there will be 4 FAs if the flight is a wide body and 2 FAs if it's a narrow body. These flights have not started yet.

Well, there goes self loading cargo

It must pay well. Guess I should have know that since UA sold so many of their 752s to FedEx (IIRC) due to fuel efficiency. Apparently a different business model.

Typo? The SIN-HKG flights also don’t have the Cargo-Only.

That was Smisek being a fire sale to get quick cash. There was no reason to part ways those 752s (as of that point) especially when DL was keeping theirs. Heck, they UA kept their ERJs over them. You would think they would've done it reverse.

Smisek = smallball. Kirby has picked up the mantle

Im guessing the cargo only fades after July 1

There are about a 12 dozens regular cargo runs from ORD, about half to Europe and the rest split between domestic and Asia

Thanks for referring to the cargo-link.
There are actually the following cargo flights to Europe: destination / weekly r/t frequency:
EWR- FRA /3
LAX - FRA /3, LHR/2
IAD - BRU /3 , DUB /3
IAH - AMS /2, FRA/3
ORD: FRA/4, LHR/2, ZRH/3
SFO: AMS/3, FRA/2

Makes for a total of 33 cargo roundtrips to Europe per week.
While I am not an airfreight expert at all, it would be interesting to get an idea how much the load & revenue on average per flight is.

UA 2769 on May 23

Hello folks,

I randomly noticed that SFO-TLV flew last night as UA 2769 (typically it is 954). This direct isn’t bookable until July 6 and the seat map shows that the flight was basically empty. Anyone know how this flight came to be?

I’m trying to assess if it’ll be available starting on July 6 according to the schedule (or maybe sooner) and this is one potential clue.

TIA

27xx flight numbers are used for charter flights. I wouldn't read anything into the availability of a regular flight on the same route.
