My MXP-EWR flight today (UA 18) is delayed 8 1/2 hours. It looks like UA 19 from 5/28 got diverted, and the app is currently not even showing "where this aircraft is coming from" For UA 18. The diverted flight is showing very outdated information, and the agent at the counter at MXP did not know where the aircraft is, but said it was expected to arrive at 4pm.

Does anybody have any insight?

9-Hour Departure Delay - UA 869 SFO-HKG on Mon 5/28

Hi All,

UA 869 from SFO-HKG (777-300ER) on Monday 5/28 had to do an equipment swap. Just curious if anyone has insights on what else caused the 9-hour departure delay.

Sounds like the original aircraft had some engine mechanical that they could not resolve. But once they made the equipment swap, there were further delays so wonder if the crew began to time-out or there was another reason.

Nothing like having a 9-hour departure delay to land at HKG at 3:15a in the morning.

At least the Polaris lounge is up and running at SFO now.

UA59 FRA-SFO diverted to OAK

Noticed that UA59 was diverted to Oakland. Anyone knows the reason? Weather delays at SFO and they didn't have enough fuel to wait it out?

Seems to be. It's pretty rare that they don't get a GDP going fast enough to divert widebodies though.. and the current airport status doesn't look that bad.

Years ago I was diverted on a 747 from ICN. The OAk-sfo leg was loads of fun!

16 minutes from OAK to SFO during rush hour? They sould consider making this a scheduled flight. :-)

I would actually really like to know the story on this. They were on the ground for an hour. I am guessing they did not deplane.

I would so want to get off, get on BART and go home. But I also really want to fly OAK to SFO in a 777.

What a waste of a cycle on the airframe and engines, and a crew's (or extra crew's) overtime!

UA doesn't offer service at OAK, so I'd have to assume they stayed on the plane? It's unfortunate UA doesn't offer service to OAK - far less delays than SFO.
