I might be completely wrong here, but I've always had the feeling that a much larger proportion of international UA flights are significantly delayed/cancelled than domestic UA flights. Anybody know for sure whether that's true or not?

The mainline cancellation rate for both int'l and domestic is about 1%

(domestic: https://www.transtats.bts.gov/carriers.asp?pn=1 -- varies between 0.97% and 1.27%)
combined D+I: e.g. United Reports March 2018 Operational Performance - Apr 9, 2018 -- It jumps up and down from month to month but hovers around 1%)

I don't know about severe delays, harder to find stats on that. And of course, a cancellation domestically where they can swap out another plane or route you easily through another hub is less disruptive than a cancellation from a foreign outstation where you wait 24 hours for the next flight.

Wed., May. 2 UA6 (NRT-IAH) - Canceled due to operational difficulties
Looks like the aircraft that was supposed to fly this route (N37018 - doing UA7 IAH-NRT) got diverted to SLC and SFO before getting sent back to IAH.

Friend was supposed to be on UA6 but got routed through SFO with the new Polaris seats, but no PJs because <10hrs.

Saturday, May 5, 2018. UA 988. FRA-IAD. Cancelled due to aircraft maintenance.

When I checked the status of this flight this morning (7:00 AM Eastern Time) it was saying delayed 30 minutes due to aircraft maintenance. Now I see that it's cancelled.

It was supposed to be the 772 that has the new Polaris seats.

UA915 IAD-CDG got out over the Atlantic and then diverted back to BOS and cancelled. See https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL915

united.com says the diversion and cancellation is due to "Operations." EF is no more enlightening.

0915/05MAY
P IAD/OUT 517P E00.08 EST OFF 541P
P IAD/OFF 545P
P BOS/ON 721P
P BOS/IN 724P

N CDG/LX OPERATIONS
D FCF/DVRT BOS ENRT IAD-CDG A/OPERATIONS

SKED IAD ORIG 525P GTD C3 SHIP 2809

Anyone know the real reason. Got to believe there was a significant mechanical problem to divert to BOS rather than EWR or IAD. And of course today's UA914 CDG-IAD is now cancelled, too.

Anyone know what's up with UA 21?

Last night UA20 IAH-AMS departed 4-5 hours late and the status page said "indicator light in cockpit" was the reason. Today, UA21 which is usually a nonstop AMS-IAH is now flying AMS-EWR. What's the reason for the stop in EWR?

Looks like the crew wasn’t reset after the first delay. Pilot replacement in EWR.

Anybody know why UA 819 was nearly 10hrs late? It says "operational difficulties"

Edit: Looks like the incoming flight was over 4hrs late. But that doesn't explain the other 6hrs

Could be that by the time they realized the inbound was late, and they called the crew to advise them, it triggered a new minimum rest time (xxx hrs from the time they were notified because their original 24hr rest was interrupted).

Today's UA 876 HND-SFO 5/14

Evening news shows aircraft sitting on tarmac awaiting tow back to gate because of blown tire. Expect delays.

I was on UA7 on 1 May. We diverted to SLC for a medical emergency. Sat there 6 plus hours. Had dumped fuel to land, refueled to go to NRT, crew timed out, took out fuel and flew to SFO. So yes there was no plane arriving into NRT on 2 May to become UA 6 back to IAH. I ended up on UA 875 to HND the next day which worked out better. Got to go into the new Polaris lounge.

UA892 ICN-SFO delayed by an hour yesterday, serious enough weather in Incheon that several flights diverted to GMP because they couldn't land.
