06/09/17:
UA 300 SFO-HNL
delayed from 1:15 pm departure to now 8:15 pm
note though that whether the flight had a 77G, Operations has given the passengers a 77W - this is the plane (#2131) that just flew EWR -SFO.
hope a few more folks get upgraded for their delay.

Arrived almost 7.5 hours late - basically 11 pm instead of 3:30 pm.
Also a quick look back one day and forward one day shows that UACO usually assigns a 77G, not a 77W on this route so the number of upgrades (28J vs. 60J) hopefully made folks happier having gotten out of SFO so late and then so late into HNL. Likely multiple folks missed many connections.

UA1883 ORD-SJC Medical Diversion to LAS
Just touched down in LAS about 5 min ago.
Concern that a woman (60s) in F was going to OD on pills.
She was fine when she got on I helped her put her bag above me in row 2.
About halfway through the flight she started to get confused trying to find her seat, going to the lav etc.
FA was attending to her and then starts going through her purse and I counted 7-9 bottles of pills being pulled out.
Doctor called on PA and two amazing ladies in their Army fatigues stepped out to help. They seemed to know some of the stuff was worrisome. I think from what I could tell they may have tried to get her to vomit in the lav.
With 1:10 left in the flight they said we were going to LAS and we got down fast. I've also never felt a bank with that much g force on a commercial flight. I'd be curious if someone could see how fast we descended and the flight map.
Paramedics have come on and taken her of. The app posted an 80min arrival delay but captain hasn't said anything yet.
And to boot right before pushback another woman threw up all down the aisle. FAs used the powder stuff to take care of it and it didn't cause a delay. Another cleaner is on the plane now while we wait.

It was the turn right before landing that made a lot of people go "whoa". It made me feel like when I was a kid and my grandpa would bank his MD500 if I was a good boy.

At the gate at SJC now only 1:20 late. Very good job to the FAs, servicewomen and ground crew at LAS.
Poor woman was traveling alone.

4000fpm is not excessive. You can get up around 6000fpm with spoilers out at higher descent airspeeds, depending on weight and conditions. 1,000-1,500 is in the range of a slow descent used when we are descending but still below the optimum descent profile.

IME, arrivals into SJC are often more "exciting" than other airports (which I enjoy) in the area.
I assume it's a combination of restricted airspace around the area, a relatively not *that* busy airport, and generally good weather allowing for/encouraging hand flying.

It was the descent into LAS once they took her blood pressure and she became less responsive. SJC felt pretty normal.
