UA has announced that the SFO Polaris lounge is opening 30 April 2018

Summary
The International UC is closed for renovation to a Polaris Club. The SQ & BR lounges have been closed and will be integrated into the new facility. Polaris lounge open 30 April 2018.
SFO Polaris Lounge opens 30 April 2018 (Previews - Press 25th, MP 27th)

The old GFL (near G99) has been converted into a premium cabin international lounge (not an UC). Eventually, it will be converted into a UC for the non-premium cabin international passengers (*G in economy). Now operating as an United Club

The F and E concourse UCs plus again the temporary mezzanine UC lounge (across from Gate 71) are options for those not eligible for the temporary G premium cabin international lounge.

Previous Updates

1 Oct 2017 on united.com
On October 1, the United Club location in the International Terminal will be closed to launch its transition into a United Polaris lounge. An additional United Club location will open across from Gate 71A on the mezzanine level at the end of September. Customers departing out of the International Terminal should allow 10-15 minutes to walk to their gate from the United Club location in Gate 71A or Concourse F.

Closure of San Francisco SilverKris Lounge for renovations

The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in San Francisco will be closed for renovations starting from 01 October 2017. As part of the renovations, Singapore Airlines will begin a transition to a newly constructed, shared lounge facility operated by our Star Alliance partner, United Airlines. It is scheduled to open in early 2018.
Earlier thread summary
Summary of posts suggest the present SFO Global First Lounge will be available for much of first half of 2017. Reports are that the current Global First Lounge will become a "regular" UC, while the current international (G Terminal) UC will become a Polaris club (which will integrate the space currently housing the SQ & BR lounges). UA is also constructing a new UC, either in Terminal G or E (or both). Construction has begun in the G Terminal United Club, a large portion of which is now boarded off. Latest info from UA suggests "summer 2018" for the SFO Polaris lounge opening.

Just spoke with UC employee on Saturday and indeed they are opening space across from the E terminal club (by gate 71). Possibly as early as this week but the exact date he was not sure. It is supposedly a temporary club and will have no windows (somewhat obvious by its location). The employee I spoke with was not happy about being "transferred" to it. Not the best situation but given what is going on else where at SFO with the UC clubs hopefully this will ultimately lead to a better situation. As SFO is my home hub I will adjust my arrival time a bit latter and probably cut any pre flight time out at at the SFO clubs and just go straight to boarding.

Do you remember the old UC in SEA, it was literally a cave under the elevaters.

So if all rumors are simultaneously correct, there are soon going to be 2 new UCs (at least temporarily)?? One in the T3 mezzanine (reopening of previous temporary location), and another across from the current (but just now closed) G UC?

I remember that club well. It was a dungeon, but not as bad as the IAD dungeon

I wouldn't call these rumors . . . it's what's stated on the UA website about SFO UC locations.

These are both small spaces and are not going to make up for the loss of the entire G Terminal club, plus SQ and BR lounges.

Yeah - I bet it's just asphalt, parking stripes, and oil stains under the IAD Club carpet. At least they painted over the soot on the ceiling.

+1 I posted that earlier. The Global F club (well what was the GFC) is will be completely overrun.

There was some temporary signage up on October 1, 2017. When I passed the UC this evening there was something more permanent to identify the changes.

So now it's slipped to "Summer 2018." That's two years plus from when Polaris was first announced.

My naiveté thinking, earlier in the year, my trip to NZ at the end of the month would have a Polaris lounge.

Yeah I believed them when they said late 2017, too. No more.

Hey, I had hopes for a trip next March, but looks like we'll be settling for a much more crowded redux of the GFL.

Note to self: avoid SFO for UA INTL connection for any foreseeable future. Imagine how crowded Gate 98 “UC” will get! Really unfortunate if you need to get to ICN/TPE on UA metal (no other connection points)

And you know how big of an impact it will have on the AMEX Lounge!!

Hmmm

I'm AC*G, flying AC J SFO-YYZ this Friday.

Due to the time of my flight (it departs before I should really be leaving the office), I certainly don't intend to visit any lounge.

And while I'm fully aware of the new rules at ORD, the sign mentioning "long-haul" isn't exactly clear.

Unless I'm really pressed for time, I think I'll stop by the GFL to see what they say. I'll be sure to report back.

In the past UA has used the following (for GFL access)
*Long-haul international flights are between the U.S. and Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East or South America.
This translates as a no for North America.
