Speaking of remembering . . . I like that this site remembers past searches. CO's couldn't do that.

I'm with you. It did remember me for two days once, then forgot who I am.

I have a roundtrip BusinessFirst EWR-LAX reservation booked into P for $1,200. I want to make a change to the reservation and pay the $200 change fee.

When I attempt to do the change online I am only given options for connecting flights. I can find nonstop flights for my desired times as a new reservation at the same $1,200 fare. But when I use the "Change Flights" option no nonstop flights are offered.

Any advice? I tried calling in but with all the flight cancellations this weekend the hold time is ridiculous. I waited about 20 minutes and gave up.

If I cancel the reservation can I use the "residual value" against a new ticket? When I attempt to cancel I am informed:

This reservation has no refundable value if cancelled. A refund will not be credited.

You may make changes to this reservation according to the fare rules of the cancelled reservation by selecting Change Flights on the View Reservation page.

What should I do to make the change?

Yes, it is really nice that it remembers them. Too bad you can't pull one up. I have tried for weeks to pull up old searches and nothing changes. I hope they fix it as it would be helpful to have.

Perhaps the problem is your searches are so mundane they're not memorable. ;)

RNE, facetiously recommending you try bookings to GIB, GPS or TOM.

Seeing an intermittent issue where the "Operated by XXXX" is not showing up in the flight results page. It does seem to consistently re-appear on the review trip itin page.

Wait until weather situation clears. Web change flight function is mostly broken, and you need to talk to an agent.

I am begining to see the proper available R space being displayed for each segment of a trip instead of the "lowest denominator" that is available. Hopefully this is a permeant feature versus a bug.

Actually, no. The only reason you're seeing that is because what UA is displaying to you is a broken fare. The segments aren't "married". Note the two different coach (and even first) booking codes on those segments. That's why "R" is 0 on the first flight but "4" on the second because the flights are broken out. This is normal when broken out. However, if UA returned you married segments then "R" would equal zero and display that for both flights. Of course you can still apply an RPU/GPU to them after you ticket and the second leg would upgrade.

new married pair logic: seating

I may have stumbled upon a new use of married pair logic on the UA web site.

I'd planned a spring trip to Hawaii for Mrs. Transportprof and me on the same PNR, and selected our seats in E+ at booking.

Then we decided to invite our niece along, and I booked her a ticket on points. No more inherited status for her seating, so we have to buy her E+ to sit together.

When I look into the pricing it turns out that the middle seat in our E+ row costs $6 less than the aisle or the window. So I figure that I'll move myself from middle to window on the 737 and buy our niece the middle seat. No can do!

When I move myself from middle to window, Mrs. Transportprof is automatically moved to the middle seat. It appears that it's no longer possible to sit with an empty middle between two E+ seat bookings, at least when they were booked aisle/middle to begin with.

Given the massive wait times to reach an agent on the phone during the recent blizzard, I just went ahead and paid the extra six bucks to buy my niece the window E+ seat in our row.

Anyone else come across this pairing lock on seat allocation, at least in three seat Y rows?

If you are a 1K, shouldn't you be able to call and get your niece seated in E+ for free? You get up to 8 companions as long as they're flying with you, even if on different PNRs.

It's a complex itinerary where only the last leg to Hawaii is flown together. We're starting the trip on different days, and in different countries.

You should still be able to call and get the seating for the legs you're together (and depending on the agent they may comp it for the entire itinerary but that's a nicety -- on the flights where you are traveling together it's an entitlement), the other itineraries is a great reason for why you aren't on the same PNR (I've done the same for my boss under the same situation [less the "different countries" part])

Upon closer inspection, the outbound flights are actually booked with Mrs. Transportprof's points, and she's a lowly Silver.

But if I'm ever booking family on points, and on the same legs, I'll call in about the courtesy E+ seating.

Who booked the tickets does not matter -- 1Ks can guest up to 8 people, regardless of PNR distribution, into E+ when on the same flights.

But we are getting a bit OT.
As for the original issue, the paired seating, I would find this an interesting :td: change and one I would be surprised if UA has implemented.
