Boeing is probably selling them at a huge discount in order to bridge the gap between 777 and 777x. I'll bet other airlines take advantage of the deals Boeing is likely offering.

COdbaUA is a two-class of service airline that just happened to pick-up some three-class of service aircraft in a merger. GF is an endangered species and will soon disappear. This management just doesn't want to spend the money to reconfigure existing aircraft.

For those who doubt this, keep in mind that Rainey already said there is no difference between GF and BF.

On COdbaUA? That's an easy one. 3-4-3 in coach. The only open question is whether E+ will be 9-across as it is on AA. With United? It will almost certainly be 3-4-3 in E+ as well.

Agree.

So long as Jeff et al. are driving this trainwreck bus, you won't see 3-cabin First.

I'd like to think they have enough intelligence to launch a new business seat -- not just for these Ws -- but also for the 87s and 350s. It's a crime that 787s are coming off the production line and have non-direct aisle access seats. Although with a 30 year old paint job, I guess UA is taking the retro theme to the max.

I wonder which FA crews will get to work these planes -- pmUA or pmCO? (You know, because Jeff is doing such a great job integrating labor... )

This is the sub question that I'm concerned with. If we were talking DL, I would say 3-3-3 is what they would install. They are actually trying to make a competitive product in coach to compete with foreign carriers. Seat comfort is one way to do that. UA, very small chance unless they are going to use this as a turning point to show they value PAX comfort and are really investing in it. Almost no chance though and 3-4-3 will surely be there.

Just really crossing my fingers that they go 3-3-3 for E+. It shouldn't be too much to ask for, but with UA.

30 year old paint job? C'mon, you have to acknowledge the fact that the gold line is now curvy instead of straight. That probably took millions in spending for a design firm to come up with that revolutionary paint job.

even if UA were to do 3-4-3 for E+, that would be 10 planes in their fleet ... compared to ~67 77E+77W that AA will have eventually.

AA has 45 MCE (E+) seats on new-config 77E and only 30 MCE on 77W (9.7% of seats) while UA has ~70-110 (PMCO 2-class 77E is 27% E+), so the chance of getting stuck in E- is much higher for an AA elite.

UA 789 has one of the highest %E+ at 35% in the whole WB fleet (and another 19% J)

Just to clarify, Tilton did not order the A350-1000. He ordered 25 A350-900s. Smisek then converted the order to A350-1000s and added an additional 10 for a total of 35.

If this rumor were true, that would be 10 77W firm, 35 A35J firm, and another 40 A350J options .... way more than sufficient to replace the 24 B744s currently in the fleet

I see a lot of these will be used to upgauge popular 77E routes

9 of UA's 747s are 1989-91 vintage, and one is a 1994 delivery. the remaining active 747s are newer (1997-2000).

Coincidence?

It will be interesting to see the LX 77Ws out here, esp. w/ the 343s being the signature representation of LX at SFO. Looks like it's not going to happen for another year though.

Not sure what the delivery timeframe is for these, but if it's in ~3-4 years that would be about time for a full refresh of the 777 cabins anyway, no?

Either these will be delivered with the new cabins, or they'll start retrofitting existing 772s with the new cabins that will also be installed in these.

I would think they're looking for a quicker delivery than that, otherwise, they would just hold on for the A350s.

The same can be said for the current UA J product. The ONLY reason to slog through the crappy, outdated UA J product is if 1) its a non-stop flight or 2) you have GS to make miles more valuable and domestic travel more tolerable.

Beyond that, anyone that connects to a UA J flight most certainly has better alternative 2-cabin carriers.

I think Boeing has enough slack to deliver a 77W to United by Spring/Summer 2016.

I agree with this. The 77W would be a cost-effective way to upgage equipment. Especially on slot controlled airports.

I can see SFO-NRT, one of the EWR-LHR's, SFO-HKG, SFO-PVG, SFO-PEK, and ORD-HKG going 77W...
