Are you asking about the EWR-NRT flight only or both flights? The NH flight will take a seperate GPU and high fare C, D, J, Y, B, E and G

Silver husband and no-status son both cleared from W to C. Miracles do happen.

Basically, your chances are as good as it gets! I upgraded a no-status friend on this route in April. And he flew on what is considered a more 'peak' day than a Tuesday.

Really bad. J6 C2, everything else zero. Any GS is ahead of you and 1Ks on Y fares are ahead of you. While that number won't be many, I think there's a decent chance you aren't #1 on the list and the flight is still 5 weeks away. United will sell most of those seats. It's going to be a nail biter at the gate most likely. Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

The sad part is that you might even lose the upgrade to lower status passengers who take a TOD. My wife and I flew on the same aircraft last year when we were just Gold and Platinum and jumped on the TOD at check-in because we had bad seats in Economy+. On the inbound, we did not care as we both had an aisle seat in row 21 and we usually don't try to sleep during daytime flights.. I do hope that you have managed to get a good seat.

The most important number to assess the chances of an upgrade is PN. Unfortunately, your flight is PN=0. Which may mean that there are GS waiting also for an upgrade or if you are lucky there are no GS waiting for an upgrade. Also week-end days are harder to upgrade than midweek. Polaris Business is sold 26/39. V fare puts you ahead of the 1Ks that booked W fare. Most probably it will go to the gate. Good luck!

Currently booked on a W fare for IAD-BDL UA1220 on 5/24. Seat map shows 12 seats left in F, expert modes says P9 PN9 R9 RN9. The T-72 hours window is approaching later today. Thoughts of this upgrade clearing? If there's R space left after T-72 hours passes, would I likely be in the clear for a CPU?

Not that I necessarily care that I get upgraded for a <90 min flight...just that it's the first time I'm remotely in the running to clear a CPU.

I think you’d be very in the clear. Sometimes UA holds off the auto-upgrading till closer to departure but R9 is as good as it gets.

Good to know. I booked this flight assuming that I'd be trying out the airline incidental fee credit on my Amex for my extra checked bag, but it looks as though it might be comped after all!

Not that the seatmap is very accurate but I'm seeing 18 "open" seats in J while E+ is filling up. Have never seen a "buy up" offer on this ticket.

LOL, just got an email confirming my waitlist upgrade ... then realized the confirmation is for my RETURN flight on Jun 19. The outbound red-eye (which is the one leg I REALLY want the upgrade for) is still waitlisted but 22/36 and showing J9 JN9 C9 D9 P4 PN0 so looking good so far.
