what I don't get is that 893, departing SFO Today (Friday) landed on time in ICN which is the return flight on Saturday that has apparently already cancelled due to MX? Its early morning in ICN, the cancelled flight would still be about 12 hours off.

1/2/15 UA 896 SIN-HKG delayed out of SIN for 2 hours 29 minutes due to aircraft maintenance. Arrived into HKG at 1155, 2 hours 25 minutes late (N796UA).

1/2/15 UA 896 HKG-ORD arrived 1 hour 9 minutes late due to late inbound aircraft.
I was in SFO on 01JAN and observed some interesting adjustments of aircrafts.

I was on UA903 (SFO-FRA). Our aircraft was inbound from NRT which arrived on time.

UA903 was to depart from gate 99. Gate 99 showed ICN's flight that was 3+ hours late.

SFO-ICN used "our" aircraft -- the aircraft that was planned for UA903. This resulted in UA903 to be delayed since there was a "change of aircraft". As a result at gate 99 we were told our new gate was 100.

While on UA903 I had a feeling something was not right. I was seated on the upper deck and the pilots were coming in and out of the flight deck. We had a mechanical regarding the lavatories on the main deck. This resulted in our flight pushing off 85 minutes late.

We made up some time and landed a 10h51 on 02JAN in FRA. I then ran and made my FRA-BRU flight at 11h25.

When I arrived at gate 100 just before 13h00 it was showing a flight UA2153, a 747, from SFO to LAX that was delayed. The seat map for 2153 showed every seat was available, therefore, there were ferrying the aircraft to LAX.

In the end UA2153 was cancelled due to aircraft availability. The pilots for 2153 were at gate 100 at 13h00 when I first arrived. They were originally to depart 13h30.

This is not how I wanted to start the new year.

They were ferrying some 744s around to get them to Hawaii to pick up pax from the many flights they had to cancel due to MX.

Last nights 764 HNL-EWR UA14 cancelled as well. On one of the busiest travel weekends of the year UAs intl fleet is once again failing miserably.

In OSL, where 39 has rolling delays due to a fuel leak...

Update: 1115 became 1215, which now is 1300 and no certainty they can get this fixed.
My wife and I protected by GS on BA thru LHR first thing in the morning. Haven't flown BA in forever, so it might be nice to check them out and still get ORC...

1245: Now allegedly boarding "soon". What's concerning is that the fuel leak was discovered upon landing from EWR, so I guess we should be happy it seemed to be a slow leak...

UA 892 ICN-SFO is huge delayed due to mechanical problem.

I saw the news tonight. This plane is about 1 day delayed. I am not sure why UA Incheon airport agent could not endorse another airline or another routing like as ICN-NRT(KE, OZ, JL, DL etc)-USA or red eye flight by Qatar Airways or Emirates, Singapore Airlines etc.

Anybody have been hard experience? I hope having a safe trip back to USA or visiting.

Wow... Good thing I got out on the 4(!) hour delayed ICN-NRT flight. We missed all connections in Tokyo, but United put everyone up.

Not a fun day for the ICN ground staff...

UA 906 FRA-ORD cancelled as well today due to aircraft maintenance.

On a day like today ... how is UA planning on getting pax back to the US? I sure hope my flight tomorrow is not going to cancel; while $1k compensation is nice I kind of need to be back at work Monday morning ...

They used the plane (N105UA) that departed on 1/2 UA 893 SFOICN to run an extra sector back on 1/3 UA 2100 ICN-SFO which departed at 1808 and is arriving into SFO at 1129.

Looks like the frame (N181UA) that caused the cancellation on 1/2/15 UA 892 ICN-SFO is ferrying back empty to SFO as UA 2192. Departed at 1824 and will arrive into SFO at 1119.

1/3/15 UA 99 MEL-LAX cancelled due to maintenance (N19951).

UA84 EWR-TLV departure on Jan 02 was delayed by three hours because they miscalculated the cargo weight and they ended up being too light to take off. After a few hours of shifting the cargo around, we pushed back from the gate but had to go back due to mechanical issues.

1/2 HNL-EWR UA/14 cancelled -- but listed as "weather" (in HNL?) (yes, technically not international, but longhaul on a longhaul aircraft)
1/3 LHR-EWR UA/16 late 2:02 -- operations
1/3 CDG-EWR UA/55 diverted BGR
1/3 MAD-EWR UA/63 late 1:29 -- ATC
1/3 HAM-EWR UA/75 diverted BGR
1/3 BCN-EWR UA/121 diverted BGR
1/3 TXL-EWR UA/125 diverted YYR (landed YYR 11:44, took off 12:34 -- impressively quick, but still unfortunate that these fuel stops have to be made at all)

That's a new one for me! I didn't know that 777s had a minimum take-off weight, as well as a MTOW. What did they do to achieve this? Load luggage that was supposed to go somewhere else and give it a detour via the Holy Land?

Yes, that is impressively quick. Maybe all these refueling should be done in YYR. When a flight I took TXL-EWR recently stopped in BGR, there was a 2 hour delay.

I checked DL's and AA's flights out of HNL for the same time period for 1/2/15. DL and AA had all there flights get out of HNL, some a few hours late, but none cancelled.

Separately, I wonder how UA turn a profit with all the compensation they must be doling out in regards to all these cancelled and delayed flights?

There will be an extra segment to ORD tomorrow as UA2105, departing FRA at 1:30p to bring people back to the US from today's UA906...

Greetings - Dirk
