The Fleet Status site is:

https://sites.google.com/site/unitedfleetsite/

At the site, you can find information about the interior features, livery, etc., for every plane in United's fleet.

To determine which plane your flight will be on go to mobile.united.com and then click on flight status. Put in the flight number for your flight and just have it use today's date (occasionally it'll say flight not operated on this date in which case just choose one of the other 3 dates it lists). In the address bar you'll see something like this:

mobile.united.com/FlightStatus/FlightDetails?carrierCode=UA&flightNumber=415&flig htDate=9%2F15%2F2015&origin=JFK&destination=SFO

https://mobile.united.com/FlightStatus/FlightDetails?carrierCode=UA&flightNumber=415&flig htDate=9%2F15%2F2015&origin=JFK&destination=SFO

Just change the flight date to match the day of your scheduled flight and then change the origin / destination as necessary. Once you do that look in the details tab under aircraft # and if they have assigned a plane it'll say something like #3506 and the type of plane. Once you know that go to the United Fleet website listed above and cross-reference the four digit number against the "aircraft" column under the appropriate aircraft type.

Keep in mind that things change as they get closer and sometimes either they won't have assigned an aircraft yet or it'll be assigned #0 if it's a few days away and they are anticipating aircraft movement.

You may also check the specific fleet variant of each flight at the United Cargo site under "Schedules & tracking". This data tends to be reliable starting 7 days in advance, but is always subject to change.

again, no one is saying that they all have wifi, they are saying that they all now have some sort of entertainment option. Either wifi, direct tv or streaming. That said, they are installing the wifi pretty fast. It was only a few months ago when it started appearing on the 739 fleet. The 739 fleet (118 aircraft) is over 70% done with wifi.

I saw that N87351 (738) is at INT as of 7/21, probably for Wi-Fi installation and N37437 (739) entered HOU on 7/17 for maintenance. Also, I believe that N74856 (753) is at MCO and not MIA, hopefully there for Wi-Fi installation. Mesa (YV) E175 N88301 has been in service since 7/15. The link to flightaware for that aircraft brings up the activity for N88031 instead of N88301. Mesa (YV) E175 N89304 enters service tomorrow 7/22.

As far as entertainment is concerned, the Wi-Fi on the 737s without DirecTV that fly to Hawaii or internationally usually lose their signals after 30 minutes into the flight and never pick up a signal on the flights back to the mainland US until the aircraft is flying over land. Therefore, these are the only flights that do not have any form of entertainment as of now.

Thanks for the catches on those. N87531 (proper AC#) is indeed INT, N37437 is indeed in HOU, N74856 shows MIA on a ferry 2138/18Jul from MCO. Fixed the link and in service dater of the E175.
Thanks for the update on 737 WiFi - I have them posted as Mainland on the spreadsheet, which I guess pretty much explains it. Do you know if the DirecTv WFfi 737's have TV and WiFi all the way to Hawaii?

Wow, I did not think any 753s went to MIA for maintenance.

I flew on a 738 with DirecTV and WiFi in February to Honolulu from Los Angeles and to Los Angeles from Honolulu. The DirecTV WiFi 737s do not have live TV or WiFi to Hawaii except for the first 30 minutes of the flight when departing Los Angeles or San Francisco since there is no satellite coverage over the Pacific Ocean. On the return flight to the mainland, there is no signal throughout the entire flight. On these flights, the 10 movies that passengers can watch once they have purchased the service are still available for viewing.

I was under the impression that all of UA's WiFi for internet was satellite, not ground based, hence should work to/from Hawaii

LiveTV's satellite coverage is limited, and does not include the Pacific. The Panasonic system would provide coverage for the entire flight to Hawaii, but it is not used on the 737s.

I'm aware that DirecTV is basically only over mainland + (reports of it dropping out over water flying from east coast.

But from UA Insider's post I was under the impression that ALL planes will have satellite based internet - sorry don't know the brand.

LiveTV is the internet provider for the 737s, so the limitations of its satellite coverage affect DirecTV and Wi-Fi service.

Here is a map of the Wi-Fi coverage (ViaSat-1 is the satellite in use by the 737 fleet):

Nice map on the WiFi coverage - therefore, all 737NGs only have domestic WiFi regardless of having DirecTv or not.

Is that map correct without any WiFi to Hawaii, Asia or Australia for 744/772s?

7 different 753s have been in MIA seen MIA starting in Sept 13, then roughly monthly since Dec 13. Other aircraft in MIA have been 34 sUA and sCO 752, ten 738s and a few Airbuses.

That is a map of the Ka-band coverage used by the 737s. Here is one for the Panasonic Ku-band product that is used on the rest of the fleet:

Some recent observations:

319: N847UA now is in the slimline configuration with F8/Y120
320: Looks like N402UA entered SFO probably on 7/23 (could be in for line maintenance or simply not in service at the moment), N420UA is either at SFO, LCQ or somewhere else for maintenance since 7/20 or 7/21, N421UA has been at SFO probably since 7/6, N430UA is not in the slimline configuration (it is in the F12/Y126 configuration with channel 9 and overhead video), N441UA is not at SFO and is flying, N465UA is at either SFO, LCQ or somewhere else since 7/15, N483UA is not in the slimline configuration (it is in the former Ted F12/Y132 configuration with channel 9 and overhead video)
744: N117UA now has WiFiStream in Y cabin in addition to overhead video

Bunky, could you please double check my observations to see if they are indeed correct with your sources?

319:
N847UA - don't know where it got Slimline, but it shows slimline and I updated
gree743

319:
N852UA entered LCQ 2156/26Jul, probably for slimline

320:
N402UA is now flying again
N420UA is in DEN, line maint
N421UA in SFO, line maint
N430UA and N483UA show having row 38, therefore slimline
N465UA is in LCQ

744: thanks for catching N117UA

Other changes (excluded narrowbody line maint)

738:
N77525 entered INT 2146/26Jul, probably for WiFi
N76519 exited INT 2147/26Jul with Wifi

739:
N75433 entered INT 2144/25Jul. probably for WiFi
N69829 exited INT 2145/26Jul
Looks like that could be the last of the totally dark 739s as N68822 is in INT and all others have DirecTv, WiFi or both.

I've no doubt the map is technically accurate, but it doesn't reflect the black-out zone in Chinese air space.
