If the DidItClear website is going to be effective, it needs more members and trip upgrade data!
Please visit https://www.diditclear.com/ and include your trip experience with CPU's, RPU's, GPU's and any other means of upgrading available on United.
The better the data, the better the search results and experiential history.

i have a couple of reservations with RPUs waitlisted where two travelers are being waitlisted together on one PNR. i am starting to think they will not clear together, so considering using the "separate travelers" function to give a better chance for at least one to clear.
1) what order would they clear in? both are in the same fare class with the same RPU status.
2) in all cases, RPUs are sponsored from accounts of others (not myself). will this separate travelers function interrupt the waitlisting of these RPUs such that i need to contact the sponsors to have them reapplied?

interesting question, I'm going to guess it will not create a problem. It is inherent in a two person PNR that at least one is being sponsored and many have done this split when they were the sponsor (but the second passagner was sponsored) and have not been reports of issues.

SYD-LHR GPU use chances.
Moderators please feel free to move this elsewhere . I am sure there is a very relevant thread on this but have not been able to find it in the last 2 hours.
I am just talking aloud here but my thoughts may help someone else.
I am flying Australia to LHR via the USA in mid January 2014.
I need to attend a meeting in London and I have 2 GPUs expiring 31 january 14.( in case you ask why I do not go via Asia). I intend to go without stopovers in the USA so I really need to be in BF.
I really hate that feeling you get when your upgrade does not come thru until checkin or not at all! SYD to LAX is a long run in economy- albeit E+ as I am 1K.
I understand that you have a sure bet if there is R inventory when booking. I have tried to use diditclear but found it too cumbersome for my abilities.
So, herewith my thoughts and I am happy to be contradicted.
My research, checking on the excellent EF, and recollections from previous posting re
Sydney to the US west coast and vv
Monday thru Thursdays are days for best upgrade chances. Forget Friday and Sunday in particular.
The Sydney-SFO-SYD routing is a better bet for availability for GPU use vs LAX although I have read posters who suggest that this may only apply in one direction only . ( funny though as the latter route is not covered by QF or DL you would think it would be a harder upgrade)
USA West Coast to London-
LAX to LHR direct and vv seems a much better bet than SFO to LHR direct.
Fridays and Sundays are bad for upgrades.

I would not trust that a GPU will clear on these flights unless there is confirmable inventory available at time of booking.
How much are you planning to pay for a SYD-LHR round trip on UA? Last time I looked, they didn't really publish competitive fares in that market.
It might almost be worth buying J on another carrier. If you do want to fly UA, consider buying a B fare, which is not that much more expensive than their other fares in the market and which carries a 50% PQM bonus and somewhat better upgrade odds if you must waitlist.

earlier this week i saw a fair amount of R space on LAX-LHR looking about 60-70 days out from now. including R8 (!!!!) on Monday, 11/4 I believe it was. ended up booking to/from AMS instead for easy Transavia connections to Spain.

The upgradeable ( with GPUs) fare BNE-SYD-LHR return is USD 3808 .
B is $5950 for the same routing.

By way of contrast, BNE-TPE-BKK-LHR // LHR-BKK-TPE-BNE on *A member EVA Airways prices out at $5298 r/t (looking at 413 Jan 2014).

So true and, for once, BNE is a useful point of departure - EVA's only destination in Australia is here.
Also unlike some other north asian airlines , no need to stopover - at most a 5 hour delay in Taipei.

To follow up: I am currently waitlisted on UA #838 BKK-NRT-SFO which requires change of plane in NRT but uses same flight #. Do these segments clear individually? If they do not clear prior to T-24 do I need to checkin early or does waitlist priority remain intact?

There have been a fw reports on FT recently reporting the same -- unclear if a glitch or something new.
