If the DidItClear website is going to be effective, it needs more members and trip upgrade data!
Please visit https://www.diditclear.com/ and include your trip experience with CPU's, RPU's, GPU's and any other means of upgrading available on United.
The better the data, the better the search results and experiential history.

I have an upcoming flight CLE-ORD-ANC. The short CLE-ORD will certainly be upgraded upon application of a RPU. However, the ORD-ANC flight looks unlikely. Probably will not apply the RPU, but will check R availability. Any other suggestions?

Apply it to the long leg only (have to call it in to do so) - if that clears, then call in to extend it to the short one.

Follow-up on mixing awards, best strategy, priority, etc
I've just hit the 75k mark in PQM for the year which means I have two RPUs deposited. I posted earlier in the thread that I intend on using RPUs or miles to upgrade myself plus 3 companions on the ORD-HNL nonstop next year.
Right now there is zero R availability on the days I wish to travel, but the thing I'm mostly waiting on right now is for the fare to drop as the current $1211RT seems too high.
The questions I have are:
- United.com won't let me mix awards, meaning per segment I have to pick either RPUs or miles. I don't think I'll pass 1K until close to the end of the year so it'll be awhile before I have 4 RPUs in my account to upgrade all of us one way. Can I mix awards on one segment via an agent without splitting the PNR?
- If I can't mix awards, I assume I'll need to split the PNRs in order to waitlist for the upgrade. Is there any difference in priority among us if we're on different segments but they all come from the my account?
- Is it better for me to book us all on one PNR and then split, vs booking on separate reservations to begin with?
My hope is that the fare will at least remain constant over the course of the next 6 months and I'll get the 4 RPUs in time to keep us all together on one PNR so that we also clear together. My ideal situation is to use RPUs one way and miles on the return.
Please, no comments on whether I should consider something other than the nonstop or whether it's worth it to upgrade to the domestic F seat.

as paid bookings, other than a corner case of the desire fare class no having enough space to booking all at the same time, there is probably little difference. Might be a minor advantage to having once had a common PNR in some irrops but only if you get the agent to look.

With her statement about R availability, I almost decided to take my chances on the CPUs; but with the 6+ hr flight, I won't have to "worry" about getting the upgrade. And BTW, the next day, this flight ANC-ORD was then showing R2 (23 days to go); 5 of 20 seats shown as "available" on seat map.

I am sure this has been asked elsewhere but I can't find the thread. I am starting to think about a booking to EU for November. UA/LH doesnt fly to the city I need to go to, so I will just book into another city and grab a separate flight or train to where I need to go.
Is there a way to quickly check multiple gateways for R space on a semi-flexible (ie, +/-1 day) basis? Eg, to/from EWR/IAH/ORD->LHR/FRA/BRU/AMS/MAD/MUC?

RPU Upgrades on Direct Flights with one stop
I suspect this has been answered before -- if so, I apologize.
Flying SAN TO DCA in a couple weeks. Stopping in IAH but same flight number.
Tried to apply RPU. R class is available SAN to IAH but not available from IAH to DCA. Agent told me that they cannot confirm one segment when it is a through flight with same flight number. They must be able to confirm the whole way.
Is this true? Is there a way to do this?

Upgrade Requested or Flight Segment Waitlisted?
I have a TATL flight out of IAD next Friday; I had applied a GPU to it upon booking to move from Y to J. The flight segment on the United website had previously shown "Upgrade Requested." Today, however, the United website does not tell me "Upgrade Requested." Instead, it shows the flight segment at the bottom of the reservation noting "This Flight Segment is Waitlisted" with the flight segment in R class.
My question: Is there any difference between "Upgrade Requested" and "This Flight Segment is Waitlisted?"
I'm hesitant to call for fear that I'll get someone outside of the U.S. who might kick me to the back of the waitlist for having such a First World problem.
Curiously, the United mobile website has shown Economy on the flight as fully booked for the past week and a half. I'd guess the flight is oversold in Y. Mobile website shows 10 seats available in J.
