If the DidItClear website is going to be effective, it needs more members and trip upgrade data!
Please visit https://www.diditclear.com/ and include your trip experience with CPU's, RPU's, GPU's and any other means of upgrading available on United.
The better the data, the better the search results and experiential history.

First of all, all connection times are less than 3 hours. If one does the upgrade with RPUs on UA webpage, it only requires one RPU: Examples of the routing are: PHL-SFO-SEA-IAH-PHL; or IAD-SEA-IAH-PHL.
If you call CS agent, one agent would explain that one RPU is for one direction, so PHL-SEA (or IAD-SEA) is one direction, the SEA-PHL is another direction. Another agent would say that IAH-PHL needed another RPU. When I told these two agents that it would need one RPU to upgrade the entire trip for these two examples, they just would not agree. What is the best way to explain this to an agent to get the 2nd RPU back?
By the way, I would always do this on the webpage. But I am trying to correct the mistake made by someone else.

A question regarding GPUs - if the flight is UA metal, does it matter if the ticket is US issued, when it comes to applying a GPU and upgrade priority? My corporate travel tool keeps giving a US flight # for UA flight (ORD-HKG). Apparently the US issued ticket is cheaper.

Waitlisted for "R" and "PN" in one reservation
FT friends: I am traveling DEL-EWR end September 2013 and returning EWR-DEL in the first week of October 2013.
I am booked in B-Class and applying two GPUs.
I am anticipating clearance of both upgrade waitlists before the dates of travel, as I have been 100% successful in 2013
.
My waitlists have, so far, always been for "R" to become available. When I today hovered over the DEL-EWR upgrade arrow, I see:"Upgrade to United BusinessFirst for this flight requested using a Global Premier Upgrade.".
Checking the return flight EWR-DEL, it reads: "You are confirmed in B class on this flight and have requested a change to PN class. You will be automatically confirmed on this flight if space in your requested class (PN) becomes available."
This is the first time I see a PN wait list. It was always "R": Upgrade with Miles/GPU/RPU/CPU R/RN. According to Expert Flyer: "PN" is an upgrade from B/M Class for Elites. It is also odd to see two applied GPUs in the same reservation resulting in both an "R" and a "PN" request
I guess as a Mileage Plus Elite member, I should have always been PN wait listed. Is this now finally what is being enforced? So no longer "R" wait listing for me, but "PN?"

PN is only for CPU routes and Instant Upgrades, neither of which would apply to EWR-DEL. R/RN is the proper fare class for the GPU. Suspect you are see a web glitch but a call might be appropriate to clear the situation.

GPU-Same Day Change-Priority & Processing
Looked around and couldn't really find an answer to this question.
I'm currently booked EWR-TLV UA90 on M-fare with a GPU waitlisted. The BF flight availability is looking potentially meager for the GPU to clear on day of departure.
I'm considering an SDC at the T-24 hour mark (of UA90) to the UA84 flight, if the BF flight availability stays at current levels. I would need to push my originating flight up 4-5 hrs to make the new UA84 departure of 4:10pm.
Question - right now UA84 has no Economy flight availability showing. If this stays the same into the T-24 (of UA90):
1) Will United put me Standby for Economy (same M-fare class) and still waitlist the GPU
2) If you're on a flight standby list with a GPU waitlisted will they clear you into BF without ever being "officially" given an Economy seat (i.e. if GPU/1K/M-fare gets the priority)
3) How do they handle fare class pricing changes in this scenario where no Economy is currently available at T-24
Thanks for any help - I just want to have a plan in place if UA84 is the more likely GPU clearance opportunity.

If I had my heart set on the upgrade, I would consider paying to change to a flight with R availability (or possibly a wide open BF cabin) prior to T-24.

GPU from Flight Standby to BF - Is it possible?
This is a good strategy if there is both fare class availability and R space open on the new flight. But you can't SDC if the same fare class is not available. And you are also likely to run into problems attempting to waitlist for an upgrade on a new flight within T-24, as that is technically against the rules.
If I had my heart set on the upgrade, I would consider paying to change to a flight with R availability (or possibly a wide open BF cabin) prior to T-24.

Not sure how, but I have had the 1K desk push a GPU that was previously waitlisted to a Same-day flight. They pulled it then reapplied it. So its technically possible but maybe procedurally discouraged.
I really want to know if they waitlist you on the flight in Economy and the BF upgrades are made - will they pull from the flight standy list (note - not the upgrade standby list) to the BF seat at departure. The TLV flights are normally held to t-60 minutes before GA clearance of the Upgrade Standby List if not previously processed by a sweep. I've had only 1 instance (in 7 years) where R>1 open'd at >T-60 minutes (within airport control windows).

Actually the United.com website on SDC says "You may stand by if seats are not available in the purchased fare class. In these cases, the same-day change fee will apply, but will not be charged unless you are assigned a seat on your alternate flight. Changes in routing are not allowed when standing by. Standby may be requested on the day of departure at an airport kiosk or with a United representative. Once you are added to the flight standby list, you can check your real-time standby status at united.com/flightstatus or on your mobile device at mobile.united.com/info."

Upgrading a GM
I am trying to upgrade a general member for a flight tomorrow using a GPU. I can go to redeem upgrade on my itinerary (same flight) and confirm the upgrade no problem if I choose to do so. However, when I go to do the same on the GMs itinerary it says no upgrade available. The flight has RN1 so I know he should be able to. Am I missing something? Can GMs not take the last available upgradable seat?

You then get their itin displayed and can now select upgrades using your account to sponsor the upgrade.

I know how to do that. The reason I posted is because it says upgrade not available when I try to do it for the GM. But if I try for my itinerary it will allow it. And to be clear it won't put me on the wait list it would confirm it all the way through.
