Sorry I should have searched.

Thank you all for the quick answers. Obviously I'll be flying to Richmond. It's an RJ. That is going to be one quick flight!

You have a meeting in my home town! There is a way to do this it is by purchasing two one way tix. I.E. PHX-IAD-RIC (make sure you do not check luggage) get off at IAD. Then since you aren't on a rt ticket and have seperate pnr's your second one way RIC-IAD-Phx won't get cancelled.

I put in a sample date of 10/19 phx to IAD and they routed through los angelos at a cost of 290 out bound and 276 on the return.

Also there is risk in doing this if everything goes haywire they will want to put you through houston or cleveland to richmond. Also if you did 2 one way tix you could do PHX-IAD-RIC on the outbound and IAD-PHX on the return, so you wouldn't have to drive to richmond.

Also a Manassas to Richmond drive sounds about as pleasant to me as a root canal and can take 3+ in rush hour traffic.

This http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...city-risk.html thread may be of interested. While a little dated (referring to most PMUA process), the basic message is the same.

What if your first flight is delayed, so you opt to drive to connecting city - thereby skipping first flight. We have flight early Oct BDL - EWR - ZRH. If the weather is bad (as it was yesterday) and our BDL - EWR is delayed (as it was yesterday) - will they allow us to just drive and connect?

Thanks

Call/Ask at BDL airport, shouldn't be a problem.

Is This The Way Pricing Works?

I travel to India regularly UA 82 EWR to DEL direct, 83 on the return. I just priced round trip from EWR = $7,239 in Bus/1st, several months in advance. I priced ORD-EWR-DEL in Bus/1st (same dates) and it comes in at $5,659, because there is a Z fare bucket from ORD and not EWR. So, UA flies me on two additional flights and charges me $1,580 less?

Question 1) Is this really the way pricing works? (Answer to my own question...of course you idiot!)

Question 2) Is there a way to skin the game, buy the ORD-EWR-DEL ticket and hop on in EWR, and hop off in EWR on the return? I don't think so, but I'm hoping!

Thanks in advance for any wisdom.

You can hop off on the return, most easily if you don't check any luggage, but you can probably get your luggage at EWR customs.

You can't do it on the outbound, as once you miss a flight, all subsequent flights are cancelled.

Do you feel like flying to ORD and back to save $1200?

If you skip the first flight, you face have the remaining flights cancelled on your itin. It's generally okay to skip the last segment if you don't make a habit of it. You could try booking a multi-city route of EWR-DEL-EWR-ORD which may price out somewhat cheaper and you can skip the last segment. There is some slight risk should they re-route you due to IRROPs as they have to route you through EWR on the return.

Just to echo what others have said, it's fairly easy to skip the last segment of the return.

Entering the US you will always have to pick up your checked luggage and clear customs. Simply tear off the tags and walk past re-check and out of the airport.

The only limitation is that some airports will require you to re-clear security into the sterile area before you can leave. I've never arrived EWR, being DC based, so I don't know the situation there. But you'll want to check before you arrive with something in your checked luggage that won't pass in a carry on (such as liquids).

You can't skip the first outbound leg, but a one-way ticket on another carrier from NYC to ORD would cost you much less than the 2k you save.

Help - Award Redemption Trick

Looking award flight from LGA to ORD for an upcoming weekend.

Plenty of availability at 12.5k miles, direct.

By chance, I happened to look at flight from LGA to CMH, availability from 10k miles, connections through ORD.

The flight from LGA to CMH takes me first to ORD (on the direct flight I want to book), then continues to CMS.

If I book the LGA to CMS for 10k miles and then simply don't get on the connection from ORD to CMS, what will happen?

Any consequences for using this trick?

Thanks

P.S. Sorry for the typo in the title... Ughhh.

If it is just one way, you'll probably be ok. It will not work for round trip because UA will cancel all remaining flights if you miss any segment.
Also, as long as you don't plan to check any bag because UA will not short check your beg to ORD only.

Taking only the return segment from a round trip itinerary...possible?

hi all,

I have booked a round trip itinerary on UA for SEA-LAX that is coming up soon.
Due to some complicated reasons, I only need the return segment from LAX to SEA, as I will be already in LA ahead of time.
Is it possible to skip the SEA->LAX flight and just take LAX->SEA?
Or will UA deny my boarding/cancel the itinerary if I don't take the outbound flight to LAX?

If you skip any segment of an itinerary, the rest of the itinerary will be cancelled.

Whenever you skip a leg, all following segments on the itinerary will be canceled. SHARES is particularly aggressive and will cancel them out immediately after any segment is not boarded.

You need to call and change the reservation. If you don't show up for the first leg, the reservation will be cancelled.
