The Day 2 used for genomic sequencing to track down variants. Even with double vaxxed people there is a risk of importing a variant (albeit very small) so I can’t see it going anytime soon.

You are right that it isn't a priority, but there are several university studies going on about this - I certainly have some cases of people swearing they had COVID before the UK's first cases. There are things you can do to reverse engineer the sequencing process which may give some clues about what happened and when. But the way this research is working suggests it may be another year before know some more of the chronology.

There was this article on the BBC News website last June, which you might find interesting - lots of anecdotal evidence suggesting it could perhaps have been in the UK earlier, but could also have been another virus.

I'm pretty sure I had it back in December 19, there were a few of us in a bar for a Christmas do and we all had bad fever and cough for 3 days after that, but no loss of taste/smell so I'm not 100%. I think some tests were done in Italy on people who could have had it back to October or November that year too.

Speaking of Italy, back in October '19 Wuhan hosted the World Military Games (I know, sounds like a blast!) and many of the Italian athletes who took part in it (who also are 'normal' athletes as the various military branches sponsor a lot of the Olympians, a bit like the DDR) reported having flu or flu-like symptoms. I guess we'll never know what happens, China doesn't want anyone from the WHO anywhere near the labs.

Day after my 2nd Moderna jab. I had no side effects at all from the first jab, but as posted by alex67500 the second one has been a different story - I think this also seems to be a common pattern for Pfizer which is another mRNA vaccine.
I was feeling very tired yesterday afternoon and evening, but it then developed in to a mild flu like symptoms. Very difficult night sleeping, and cycling between feeling too cold and too hot. Also a bit of a headache. By this afternoon I am feeling a little better, but the headache still persists. No coughing at all though. Anyway, thought this may be useful to other for what may be expected, and I am hopeful about being back to normal tomorrow. |
I had absolutely no side effects from my Pfizer duet, and neither did my parents, although I did do some simple weight lifting after both to try and limit any arm soreness.
I'm not sure whether my immune system is so amazing that it just laughs at the spike protein while ripping its head off without breaking a sweat, or whether it's so useless it simply hides and the vaccine generated proteins are just floating around me looking lost and lonely. |

Consequently the downward trend remains remarkable and much, much bigger than expected. Infection rate per 100k - 7 days cumulative - is 306.4 compared to 486.9 a week ago.. Infection rate per 100k - 14 days cumulative - 793.3 compared to 878.8 a week ago. 7 days over 14 is 38.62% indicating that the decline in cases is speeding up compared to a few days ago. It is the second sharpest single day trend reduction seen in this pandemic, the record being 38.53% I've been on a conference call with my colleagues in Redcar - one of the worst places in the UK for infection - and they are already seeing a decline in cases at their hospital. There are 4 groups involved here, those with COVID symptoms who turn up at A&E and are sent home, those who are admitted for treatment, those in intensive care, and those who are in hospital for other reasons but have coincidentally tested positive for COVID, often asymptomatically. That is now the largest group, reflecting the large but thankfully declining pool of infected people in Redcar. |
There was a report in the Telegraph (I think) earlier this weeks saying that more than half of the hospitalisation figures were accounted for by people admitted for non-COVID reasons but that tested positive during routine screening. I did think about posting it here, but was not convinced about its accuracy. Perhaps it was not so far off after all.

And strangely the mass ranks of immunologists don't know why this is either.
