there is much more supply than demand now so it’s good she can get it when she wants to now

Thank you to whoever posted the Reddit getjabbed link! Kid is checked in to Hilton Paddington, got her test (negative) in the station at Expresstest and uploaded results to Verifly, AA has cleared her, she requested a late checkout for 2 pm tomorrow to head to Heathrow for her 17:30 flight to LAX. At 9 am tomorrow she hits the streets with a list of 3 walkin locations that are rumored to be giving Pfizer second jabs at 4+ weeks. She is now at 5.5.

I hope so. She really wants to avoid 10 day isolation on return.

I thought that in order to avoid isolation you must have received both jabs from the NHS? Or have I misunderstood?

Yes. She had dose 1 from NHS 5.5 weeks ago and wants dose 2 before coming to California. So that when she returns in September she can bypass the 10 day requirement.
I hope she manages to get a walk-in. |

Ah, I see. I misunderstood your post as saying that she was flying to LA in order to get her second jab.
I hope she manages to get a walk-in. Many of the young people on Reddit looking for early second doses cite desire to visit grandparents soon as a driver. :-( |

Flying to LA to see us. She's only been home for one brief visit this Christmas in the last 19 months. If she doesn't get a walk-in NHS she will do one here, but fingers crossed, it looks like the London sites are being flexible and have excess.

I have to say, D and her friends are a wee bit frustrated. She went to her essential job every day, isolated when pinged, tested before and after the *two* times she got together with her uni friends in the last year, tested and isolated before and after coming home to see parents and grandparents, and now it feels like they have been left to the wolves.
my comment was more generally directed at others knowingly avoiding such practices. im very happy for you and your daughter to have sorted a solution before she returned to the US and the mess it would have been had she needed a US vaccination prior to returning to school!! |

wear a mask and be respectful is my motto now. :) anyone that chooses otherwise, fine. unless you are here in scotland. and dont get me started on international travel. or putting your bags over my seat in 1D. OTHERWISE all is fine. i think that covers it all yeah? (oh and my home neighborhood in islington is dangerous) |

I know the travel/tourism industry is in dire need of cash and reopening, but there are societal implications which I believe SAGE have pointed out. Older/vulnerable folks should be careful what they wish for. Compliance may very well plummet in the winter if restrictions are brought back for their benefit. |

The mass gatherings without social distancing around the Euro 2020 cup semis and finals should only start to hit the data now. And it's gonna take a bit longer until the 'freedom day' effects become visible in the numbers. I think of R as (approximately) a choice variable to the policymaker over short time horizons (like a months or two). Right, a harsh lockdown virtually guarantees pushing R below one. Less-drastic measures may not but they do reduce R ("flatten the curve"). So why are users--including one or two from a more pertinent field than mine--discussing a possible stabilization. Don't we need a little longer to see effects of BJ's "double whammy?" |

the website mentions being a resident but frankly no one asked me or anyone I know... |
If anybody is looking to do an anti body test to test their reaction to the vaccine I have just received this from York Test - currently on sale for £33.
I was a little apprehensive as they don't tell you what test it is. I was going to order from Testing for all, but they are currently out of stock. Much to my surprise I've just opened the package and it says it has been manufactured by Testing for All and has the product code CS1-ROAB-ACYT-D. Hopefully that means it's the same test! I'll report back when I get the results, but the email from them says to only do the test Monday to Wednesday (I guess to account for postal delays), so it may be a while! |
