Star Alliance airlines move to new airport on 2 january
Seem interesting news yesterday from Singapore Airlines... in 15 days the move will be done ! Important if you connect with Turkish.

Relocation of Istanbul Airport Operations and Cancellation of Flights on 30 and 31 December 2018
From 2 January 2019, Singapore Airlines flights to and from Istanbul will be relocated from the current Ataturk Airport to the new Istanbul Airport.Due to the cessation of airport operations at Ataturk Airport and the airport transfer from 30 to 31 December, the following Singapore Airlines flights will be cancelled:
- SQ392 from Singapore to Istanbul on 30 and 31 December 2018
- SQ391 from Istanbul to Singapore on 30 and 31 December 2018
The first Singapore Airlines flights that will be operated into the new Istanbul airport on 2 January 2019 are SQ392 from Singapore to Istanbul and SQ391 from Istanbul to Singapore.

sounds like SQ is just really late in posting info that in the end will be changed in the next 2 weeks. Either that or it could be a SQ flight and 10 or so domestic TK flights!! (but I somehow doubt that). The only thing that seems to be operating properly at the new airport so far is Simit Sarayi.........

For those of you who only connect or use the airport a couple of times per year this is all really academic, most are interested in the lounge which does not exist in any way shape or form yet. For others that frequent the airport o/d 50 or 100 times year or means a lot more and can be life changing, so it better be done right

I have a connection at IST on the January 2nd. So to me this is not an academic exercise but a real problem.
If they actually force the switch on the 31st, I expect that at a very least it will significantly delay my flights and cost me some days of vacation time. I certainly hope they *do not* open it on the 31st, but looks like that is still the plan. Got confirmation from TK today again, when specifically asked:

Upon the end of the main transfer from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Istanbul Airport on 30-31 December, 2018, all of the scheduled Turkish Airlines flights will start being operated at Istanbul Airport as of December 31, 2018 at 02:00 PM.

TK won't be moving to the new airport until March / April. It'll probably be announced very soon.
Not sure about the other airlines though.

There was a meeting today with bunch of important folks (including the ministry of transportation), so the outcome is the decision not to move operations. Here's an article in Turkish:

Bilal Ekşi, the CEO of Turkish Airlines has announced that flights to Gaziantep would start on the 21st December 2018 from Istanbul ( New ) Airport on his Twitter account. These flights would be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Even though reservations hasn't been opened for these flights.
These flights would be operated daily in the winter season.
