Update January 2020:

According to statusmatcher.com TK will only issue the the status match challenge to those holders of the following status:

Oneworld Emerald
Finnair Plus Gold (Oneworld Sapphire)
Skyteam Elite Plus
Emirates Gold/Platinum
Etihad Gold
Oman Air Gold

Other Gold Card holders including *G are out of luck.

Please report your experience in this thread and note the useful information in the Wiki below.

It appears that status matches are only granted once per lifetime, so think carefully before requesting if you might not re-qualify.

TK asks for Elite card scan AND Account activity within last 2 months, so it's best if you have some activities!!
Timeline can range from few hours to few days, be patient!

It looks like TK might also ask you for a scan of your Passport now. So if you are in a hurry better submit it right away in the first place with all the other documents.

Date Requested
Current Airline and Status (note list of matchable status above)
Information submitted (i.e. physical card scan, activity statement, etc)
Any replies received other than confirmation
Date Confirmation Received

Multiple reports from December 16th 2015 onwards state that TK now only grants a match to 4 months "elite trial", requiring 1 international TK flight during the 4 months following the match to extend it to one year and 15000 k TK status miles during that year to extend elite status to 2 years:
Welcome Miles&Smiles Turkish Airlines' advantageous Frequent Flyer Programme. Elite card trial period will be valid for 4 months. As of start date of elite membership within 4 months trial period one international Turkish Airlines flight should be realised for extending your card validity date to 1 year, if 15.000 status miles accumulate at the end of the first year elite membership will extend 1 year more and the total validity date will be 2 years.
04/11/2017 - CoweyB. TK has clarified that once a status match is given any miles collected during the first year of the match do not count for renewal - despite the email suggesting that 25,000 miles collected in the first year will secure renewal. TK has said that it is necessary to collect 37,500 in the second year to maintain Elite status for a further two years once the period of the status match ends.

that was my speculation as well. But the challenge period did not count as a standard period first year.

So the only possibility to requalify after a statusmatch is earning 40,000 miles in 1 year?

So nobody in the end has an actual answer on what it takes to requalify or successfully make the challenge?! What if you reach the 40k but they still insist that you fly 15k on TK, they can still deny you the renewal I assume?

I went through all my mails and nowhere does it state that 15k should be achieved on TK. Very frustrating the whole thing. Not one good thing so far I can say about M&S after being with them for a year now....

TK must have changed their own rule as they suddenly ask for 15k status miles on TK flights. I have their original message where this is NOT mentioned and it proofs that the original requirement was just 15k status miles regardless of the airline. I have filed a complaint and wait for the next reply.

But this should still mean that the customers who's status was matched during the original message where it says 15k on any airlines, should also finish the challenge under the same rules they were given from the start. Or are we now reliable as well to check every day whether any regulations have changed? its a bit ridiculous, also since they ahve not published any of this anywhere. Please do keep us informed. Thank you!

I'm trying to make sense of this now... I have received the same e-mail as everyone else, as I just got my status match in December.

I have a trip planned in a few weeks which should get me 22k status miles (on Turkish metal), which I thought to be well over the 15k requirement needed.

Are people saying that it actually needs to be 40k, not 15k? Or are they saying that 15k is okay, but it just needs to be on Turkish metal? I don't really mind in either case, I just want to know.

According to deleter #24, he did well over 15000 miles with TK during the challenge period and was still downgraded. So their new conditions excuse would not even apply here.
The safe choice is probably to do 40000 miles with whatever *A airlines.

Same situation for me, really irritating. I had 23.5k miles in first year (13k by TK flights) and get downgraded to classic. In every information they provided me at the begining of the challenge was no word that those 15k miles should be collected by TK flights.

I've created ticket in their customer support, but didn't get an answer for 6 days now. I'm writing messages to them on Twitter (@TK_HelpDesk account), but they only respond that my case is in progress.

disgusting how they are handling this.
I put all my miles to TK to get 15K. Could have gotten more miles with other program.

Just a fraud.

Today's answer from TK for my question:

As of start date of Elite membership within 4 months trial period one international Turkish Airlines flight should be realized for extending your card validity date to 1 year, if 15.000 status miles collected with Turkish Airlines flights at the end of the first year Elite membership will extend 1 year more and the total validity date will be 2 years.

Please be informed that, when we checked your membership account we confirmed that the above mentioned criteria has not been fulfilled yet. If you credit the necesarry miles till June 10th, 2017, your Elite card expiration date will be extended by 1 year more.

They changed the rules and added 15k miles TK in first year.

you mean: secretly changed the requirements without informing running status matches. Very unethical behaviour... I am still waiting for a response from TK

Very unfair. If I knew, then in May I flew to the USA with Turkish. So two weeks ago I bought a ticket with Air Canada and United.

I am angry because I could buy even more expensive ticket to keep the gold.

The open question is whether the downgrade need to get 40k miles in 12 next months, or simply, as in my case, add more than 10k miles and have a total of 40k.

Excuse me, in other words...

After my downgrade:

My Account -> Status miles 0
However, Card Upgrade -> Status miles earned in last 12 months 22.000
As of 27.12.2016 miles are required to be ugraded to Elite. -> 18.000

Just wondering if you can buy status miles once you were downgraded to classic plus.
For example if you have 30.000 status miles after the challenge ( less than 15.000 status miles form TK )can we buy 10.000 if we were to down grade to classic plus card.
