In order to get a better seat, stop by a desk at SFO and ask, at the airport, there would be no fees for choosing your preferred seat.
However after boarding was completed the 3 seats in the center next to my aisle seat were all empty - presumably a no-show as they had been showing as taken earlier. Tech staff moved another passenger to one of them (presumably due to a broken seat elsewhere given it was the tech staff that did it and not the FA's), and I happily grabbed another, so at least I went from aisle-with-someone-in-the-middle to aisle-with-a-free-seat-next-to-me. |
Turkish Airlines Seat Selection: Did it go through?
Hi everyone!
I read a lot on this forum regarding Aeroplan points to purchase international tickets using Turkish Airlines. I was able to purchase the tickets, find the TNR and use the Turkish App to see my tickets. My e-tickets start with 014 so I was not able to see anything on the Turkish website. I was unable to purchase seat selection on the App so I called customer support (45 days before departure date), they tried to run my card but they said it did not work on their end so I was refunded. I used the cowtool before calling customer support and it showed this: Coupon | A/C | Seats Open for use | 789 | (empty) Then after calling customer support: Coupon | A/C | Seats Airport control | 789 | 14J 14K Did the seat selection go through? Note: The day after calling customer support I was able to go onto the seat selection page in the Turkish App. The App does not show that my seat is selected but the cowtool and Aeroplan Website show that my seats are selected. Also, am I able to check-in online? Customer support said I will have to do check-in in person. Is there anyway to have Turkish Airlines send me an Email with my ticket information? Thank you all! |
Seems like you have been assigned seats. I wouldn’t expect any issues during OLCI; your seats are likely to stick. Depending on your origin or destination you may not get a BP online and need to get it at checkin counters.
For e-ticket receipt you need to contact Aeroplan. TK will/can not issue ticket receipt/details for tickets issued by others. |
Assigning a seat and paying for it are 2 separate transactions. Normally legacy airlines issue a document called EMD - Electronic Miscellaneous Document to charge for the seat. If you have not been charged (so no EMD was issued), the airline will most likely cancel your seat assignment. AC is on Amadeus and TK on IBM Res3/Troy. Transfer of data between systems is very often inaccurate. I would not rely on cowtool (which I guess in the background uses Amadeus API), but rather check status on TK App which is the most solid source of information for TK flights.

App didn't work for me

If you access your TK Reservation through their app, it should allow you to select seats. After the advice of others a couple of weeks ago (see above), I did this, and it worked for me. I used the UA ticket # (starting with 016) for each passenger and the last name and was able to do it in 2-3 minutes. I can still today see our TK Reservation and seats by accessing the same way.

I was excited to try this so I downloaded the app and I am able to see my saved business class flight using United award miles from ORD to IST for Feb 2024 but it will not allow me to choose seats. When I go to manage reservation and enter the 016 UA ticket number I get "Dear passenger the e-ticket number and passenger surname do not match. Please check your information" I assume that means they are looking for a 235 number which I don't have. I appreciate any other ideas someone may have. Thanks
So, your TK number should be on your UA reservation. But you can also try contacting TK via their social media: Facebook Messenger for example. I’ve found them to be quite responsive. |
This is awkward. I booked a trip from BCN to SIN for 4 pax and selected all seats during the reservation process. Even on my confirmation email I see all 4 seats listed for each flight.
But when I go into manage my booking I only see seats selected for passenger #1 and everything else is empty. Is this normal or do I actually not have 75% of the seat reservations that I have listed in my confirmation email? |
It is a common issue and has been reported before. All seats have been assigned as you have seen during the reservation process and as confirmed to you. No need to worry.

Thanks. What made it even more scary is that when I checked ExpertFlyer it also showed only one of my seats as taken and the other three as... available.
Good to know that everything will be fine in the end... |

I have a couple intra-Europe flights coming up with TK in E. *G with OZ. Wondering if I should pay up for an assigned seat to avoid being stuck in the middle…. |

Partner FFP numbers could sometimes not stick before check-in opens |
For USA flights there are no more option to select free seats even during check-in. It automatically assigned me a seat and if I want to change it, I need to pay $39. One of the phone agents mentioned that 6 hours before flight I can change the seat for free but I couldn't find the information anywhere else. Website shows the seat will be random 6 hours before the flight if I haven't selected already. Does anyone know about this?
