you can try to call and reserve your seat - however TK does not have free advanced seat reservation - except for TK elite and TK elite plus or in business class.
they cracked down on opening TK PNR that have not been issued by TK. Up to the last app update you were able to open the reservation in the app but it's not possible any longer. you will get an error - like on the website. |

I called TK's 800 number in the US and was assigned the seats on the spot after providing TK's PNR number and 014 ticket number. Thank you very much for your suggestion.

Paying for seat selection?
I’m really struggling to pay for seat selection. Every time I select a seat, I go through the checkout process, the payment goes through to my credit card, and the Turkish Airlines app/website says the payment failed. My bank sees a successful charge, but Turkish Airlines always always shows a failure.
I’ve attempted to pay via the Turkish Airlines app on a phone and a tablet, mobile browser, desktop browser, multiple browsers on each. I’ve paid with three different credit cards, tried Apple Pay and Google Pay and PayPal. They all fail. I called and spoke with Turkish Airlines, and they see no problems on their end. They said the bank is declining and that I should try a different card. I called and spoke with the bank, and they see no problems. I’m now sitting on about 1500 USD of pending charges on various credit cards, but I don’t have a seat selected yet. Is there a trick to this? In case it helps - this is an award booking via UA, but I'm managing the reservation on the Turkish Airlines website using the TK PNR. Managing the reservation seems to work fine, and the seat selection works fine - it's just the payment that gets buggy. |
Call TK to make the payment or contact your local TK ticket office for assistance.

So I called Turkish Airlines today and spoke to them for 30 minutes. They said that because the ticket was booked via United, the seat selection can only be paid through United. I called United, and they said that there is absolutely no way to pay for a TK seat selection with them. The Turkish Airlines rep said that they cannot take my credit card number under any circumstances because it's a UA ticket.
So I'm back to square one. |
Yeah, drop it. You will get nowhere with this. Luckily there is absolutely no need to purchase seat in advance. Just do online check-in or ask at the gate if you prefer a different seat.

My main concern was about getting a decent seat before everyone else gets a seat auto-assigned at checkin. There were a bunch of good seats available when I started the process, and somewhat fewer seats available as we get closer to the departure date. Online checkin does not allow selecting a seat ime - you just get to see whatever random seat was assigned, and if you want a different one then you have to pay (which I won't be able to do). So I'll check with the gate agent, but I suspect the available seats won't be great at that point.

I have a flight from ATH-IST-CPH; would the check-in agent in ATH be able to accommodate my seat request for the IST-CPH leg, or would I need to check with the transfer desk in IST?
Added: The third-party agent at check-in in ATH was able to accommodate my request for both flights. |
