You best chance is to ask at check-in counters or gate if the seat next to you is free.
Looking at the seat map in advance will not tell you anything about where to be seated to have free seat next to you. TK IT will assign the seats when check-in opens/when you check-in (OLCI). |

Tried searching the thread. But still. Does an Elite member get free standard seat selection on TK flights booked with an OTA? Or just book direct with TK.
Thanks in advance. |
Answering my own question. Elite members do get free standard seat selection on TK flights no matter where the tickets are booked/purchased.

For an upcoming CAI-IST flight, I selected a preferred Y seat for free previously, while I was TK elite. That seat is still showing on the TK app or website for me, but their call centre told me that I don't have that seat assigned because I haven't paid for it. They said I have no seat assigned (even though the original preferred Y seat is still showing assigned to me on their app/website).
Is this because I no longer have TK elite status (I am Star Alliance Gold through UA)? What will happen when it's time for OLCI? Will I lose the preferred seat and will get a randomly assigned seat at that time? (It's a short flight, so I don't care that much about a preferred seat, but I would prefer an aisle seat.) |
My best guess is that the seat is still assigned to you.
Why did you call TK about this if the seat is still showing as unavailable? Do let us know how it turns out once OLCI is open. |

Seems sensible to use it. As a fairly new TK Elite I've been surprised on multiple occasions to be put in a middle seat in a non-exit row near the back of the plane. Maybe I've been spoiled by CX sorting these things out without me needing to think about it, but on TK at least it seems that even with status one needs to pay attention to seating selection rather than rely on the airline to do a good job of it.

Seats assigned automatically at booking—family split up
So I’ve flown with TK a lot but this is new—I booked a flight for my family and I (5 passengers) and did not pay for seat selection. In prior circumstances when I have done this the seats would get assigned at check in and we would almost always be assigned seats together. This time, the same day I purchased the ticket, I went to review my reservation on the app/website and noticed that the system already assigned seats to us although the flight is still months away. The problem is they assigned seats to a family of 5 in separate rows on each leg (except 1 out of the 4 legs where we are seated together). In 3 out of 4 legs, they have two of us in one row, and the other 3 in a separate row far apart from the other row. I feel they are trying to force me to pay so we can be seated together which seems quite unfair. The seat map is wide open and there are many opportunities for the system to have seated us together but it seems it deliberately chose to separate us. Do I have any recourse here other than paying? Paying for multiple passengers for 4 legs will be costly. TK call center was (not surprisingly) not helpful and they advised I submit feedback through the website but not sure that will accomplish anything but I will try.

At what time should I pay for a seat for a flight in November? Overnight flight with 2-4-2 config. I prefer window seat. Bassinets are in row 5. Would row 9 or 10 be fine? Trying to get off the plane quickly and have a food allergy, thus food choice during service. Why the price difference between both rows? What makes 9 better than 10?

Hi ive got the same issue as you and on one leg have been allocated seats right at the back near the toilets and 2 members of the group further ahead :( . I submitted a feedback form and all they did was send me the link about seat selection from their website. I am hoping once we check in at the airport they can put us all together as we have young children so would prefer to be seated together on all legs of our journey. |

Don’t wait until all the seats are booked up. But, I must add… you can’t choose to not pay to select seats and then complain about not getting the seats you want. |
Does TK allow changing seats after check in (in Y)? I.e. - would I be able to go through online check in, see what seats are assigned, and then decide whether it's worth while to pay for other seats? Or is the check in final?

Is TK Elite supposed to get free seat assignment on a Y award ticket (TATL from IST)? I was doing a dummy booking earlier, and they were charging 6k miles for a standard seat and 28k miles for exit row. I also saw that the exit row seats are supposed to be available to E/E+ during a specific period, but there was no mention of exactly what that is supposed to mean. When should these seats become available for elites?
Thank you |
