I found MK baggage system was efficient when EK damaged a case a few years ago. A new replacement case was waiting for us at MAN when we returned.

The MAN-IST legs seem to have few pax but the IST-MRU legs are almost full - I verified this with Expertflyer app.

One off topic question: How were the meals on IST-MRU leg?

It wasn't great, but we made do with the hotel clothing shop and the golf shop. We were "stuck" at the beach/hotel for a week anyway, so it's not like we needed our full suitcase :)

Turkish Air Seat Assignment Issue
 
I prepaid for seats during the booking process online via the Turkish Website . I could not see the seatmap online and wanted to switch to the A Side Window and as I booked the Extra Seat the Middle would be blocked. I called up an agent and she tried to get me 15 A. Only after she switched me she told me there would be a $119 for Extra Legroom. I did not know if they switched the aircraft from a 777 to 787. Had I known it would have costed me more I would have kept my seats as is let alone them being non-refundable.

I filled out a Feedback Request online per the Reservation Agent and gave them my Mobile Number and times when I called. They said it was not the phone I called from but it was as this is the only phone I use for all calls.

The Customer Service rep told me to contact a local Ticket Office which is closed due to COVID.

I also have a disability and want to be towards the front right in front of my Parents. I made them aware online of my Special Assistance. The agent could see that I paid for the Extra seat. I even have receipt for $108 for each segment for 3 passengers and my total was $1172 with the extra seat .

I told Customer Service that I would like my original seat back or Business Class as I do not want a middle seat or a seat towards the back as this is why I paid up for a seat up front. If someone here works for Turkish please try and help me.

I feel like I did everything right and its not my fault that they changed the aircraft. I take full responsibility when its due and if I had known it would have costed extra before switching I would have kept my seat as is or paid up if that is the seat I wanted. They wanted $119 and I told the agent had I known they wanted it I would have kept my seat and I objected on the phone and then the agent left my seat unassigned.


Any advice on what to do? On other airlines I have asked a simple request for an A Side even when I prepaid for the seats and it was not a problem.

It is possible to change free seats within a ceratin duration of time, but it is not possible to change paid seats.
Seat change means forfeit of the original charge and paying again. You may not like this policy, but it is what it is...

If you file a complain about a call center agent (who I assume offered you to change seat for free and then attempted to charge you for for this) this is a standard procedure for them to request you to provide exact call time and phone number you called from. They will listen to the conversation to verify what happened. Again, this is the policy...

They took my payment and the bank sent over the details and I was charged. The agent did not tell me at the time I tried to change my seat that I would be billed for an Extra Legroom seat or charged again. I told the agent to switch me back to my original seats which she did not do. Another agent would not let me explain and hung up on me. Some agents don't know English well. Customer Service would not let me speak to a supervisor.

With Lufthansa their customer service is better. How can Turkish be a Star Alliance member if they don't have friendlier agents. I had to call many times to resolve such a bloody simple request.

It's not legal to have to pay again to switch to a like for like seat. I paid $544 extra to block the middle seat. They have my money and refused to look up my payment history . I got a receipt that I paid for my seats. I could not see the seatmap of my first flight online or on the app

I work in Tourism and know the ropes. I have never dealt with such a situation over a simple request to sit on the left side as I'm left handed. I was clear in my request speaking as clearly and as slowly as possible.

No I'm not entitled to Business Class but was pushing it as an option if they could not sit me up front next to my Parents. I don't need to be in the same row as them. I book the front as I get vertigo and prime to plane sickness in the rear. I was willing to pay to get seats assigned.

It has been resolved but Turkish said they did nothing wrong however the agent failed to warn me before that all assignments are final which is crazy because once you paid for a standard seat all seats are open for assignment under the category. She may have been confused with Extra Seat and Extra Legroom.

I'll take it up at the airport so future customers don't have to go through what I did.

Unfortunately, it's the reality that TK is trying to save money by outsourcing English speaking call center agents from 3rd party companies.
It's the responsibility of these 3rd party companies to train agents but I guess TK doesn't inspect the quality of their service regularly so we are hearing a lot of complaints about call center agents here in FlyerTalk.

Glad it isn't just me. I want to take this up with someone so I wrote to the Office of the President so they are at least aware of what took place. Why are they trying to deflect the blame on me? All I did was conduct a normal not out of the ordinary transaction. I may see about getting upgraded to Business Class at the airport if its available.

Many airlines have various ancillaries non-refundable and each time you prepay for an extra item you should check, if it is refundable or not.

Having 'friendlier agents' is not a requirement for joining *A - otherwise only NH and SQ would be left in the alliance :D

Was it just a mistake?

A few weeks ago I traveled on a relatively high economy fare class, and it allowed me to select well in advance, an extra legroom seat (economy bulkhead aisle) for no charge. It wouldn't allow exit row for free, but it did allow economy bulkhead. I am an Elite status holder. Does anyone know if this was just a mistake, or if it had to do with my relatively high economy fare class?

If it was because of the higher fare class and wasn't just a mistake, do you know what fare class and higher opens this benefit?

It might be a glitch on a certain aircraft type. Otherwise, higher fare Economy tickets still doesn't allow free seat selection for non Elite or Elite Plus customers.

Has anyone seen this before:

My wife and I are traveling from the USA to TLV with TK flights that are ORD-IST-TLV and then returning TLV-IST-ORD. These are in J as UA award tickets. The TK app works fine for the outbound seat selections but for the return, no matter what I do I keep getting the response "Please select another seat" which of course I try but with the same result. I ended up calling Turkish Airlines twice and the response was basically "I don't know what's wrong, must be a technical issue, call again some time, bye".

The even stranger part is this is our second reservation made for these flights. Due to an additional change on the UA flight end, the first reservation was canceled and then reticketed by UA under a different PNR. Our first reservation worked fine for seat selection on all four TK flights. Now it only works for two of them

Any suggestions on how to handle? Thanks.

Are you sure that UA has reticketed all flights accurately, if so, there shouldn't be any issues selecting seats.
If they did, fill out a feedback form on the website and the back office should be able to assign the seats you wish on their end.

Thanks for the reply. I am Elite, but it was the fact that it let me reserve the extra legroom seat (bulkhead aisle) well in advance, for no fee. Such a curiosity!
