A couple of years ago at MCO I was shuffled into the regular security line that CLEAR funneled into (not my choice, the $7-an-hour b'stard at the front of security forced us into that line). I watched in anger as all the other lines moved smoothly but our line took 20 minutes to move 10 yards because we were constantly stopped to let CLEAR folks through. From that moment on I hated CLEAR and am not sad to see it die.

I am glad to see CLEAR gone. IMHO it was nothing more than a scam to make the ex-owner and the airports that had it, money. It did nothing for airport security the way it was set up, and it was just a concierge service to get people to the front of the security line. The TSA would never sanction a scheme to let passengers by-pass any of their security theater, as it means relinquishing some control over Airport Security. So CLEAR was really dead from the day it started.
I finally realize what this thread is about. It's the people who didn't have clear finally getting one over on the people who had it. Waaaahhh... you got to cut in line! It's not fair. Boo hoo hoo. Schadenfreude. |

Can we borrow some of your Government people? In the States they would have realized the bio-card was saving money and increased the fee to $20.

But the Clear members (well, more accurately Clear's venture capitalists) had paid for that security lane to be open in the first place.

Some security-related information included in the following wsj.com article http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-...25-710909.html
"On a teleconference Tuesday with the Transportation Security Administration and airport officials, Verified executives said they are securing customer data and are in the process of destroying it... ...Travelers' biometric information, such as iris scans, is stored separately from their names, addresses and other data, said Carter Morris, senior vice president for transportation security policy at the American Association of Airport Executives. The AAAE runs the Transportation Security Clearinghouse for the nation's registered-traveler program... "It's a bifurcated process," he said. That's "a key part of the security and protection" of the information travelers provide to enroll in the program... ..."the system was built from the ground up, from concept, with that purpose in mind from the get-go: preventing unintentional use of the information that was provided by subscribers." Of course, there is also information in the article about credit card company actions that is probably incorrect; we hope this discussion on security is more accurate! |

So United is reveling in the death of a 'competitor' in the expedited TSA screening market.
From a rotating ad on their front page: Premier LineSM CLEARŪ lanes have closed. But priority lines are still open. Learn more Nice. $25 for one time, clogging up the elite security lines. Where is the hue and cry of injustice? Of the cries of 'communism' inherent in selling government services for a fee? Of this being the end of civilization as we know it? |

Goodbye Clear, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Clear was a totally useless waste of resources, TSA level !! IIRC, they use similar kiosks/iris scanners to the ones that Global Entry/NEXUS uses, perhaps CBP can buy the machines off the creditors and expand GE faster and cheaper. |
As I feared/predicted the entire 'Diamond' security checkpoint was closed at IAD this evening. This was the security lane downstairs that Clear paid for but that anyone could use (after giving priority to Clear customers). So EVERYONE loses. :(

Do any of those applauding the closing of Clear get angry when they are held from leaving the airplane so that the premium pax can deplane and get to border control before they do?

But that's just a gesture on the part of the airline to make me think I'm valued. I appreciate it, but wouldn't care if the airline stopped doing it. |
But how does that differ from the Clear line? The coach pax are forced to wait because you have paid extra (in some way or other) to get up front and are offered a privilege simply because you paid the money (or miles, or coupons, or whatever).
