Line dragons sometimes (YYZ T3, I'm talking to you) require a card before allowing access to the GE kiosks.
However, my acceptance letter says the following: If you enrolled in Global Entry, you may begin using the kiosk immediately. Now, if you need to use a mode of travel that requires the card (for GE - land and water entrances, for example) you need to get and activate the card. But as soon as you receive your acceptance letter, you can begin using the kiosks for air travel. |
I thought originally that you had to activate your Nexus before you could use GE, but apparently that's not the case, according to the acceptance letter.
Tell the "line dragons" when entering US pre-clearance you are Global Entry member and they should let you through (GE members don't have to carry cards). If you tell them you are Nexus, then they may ask to see your card. |

Nexus holder, with a fresh 10-year Canadian passport.
* Live outside US/Canada * Flying into the US soon * Can I use Global Entry even though my passport details aren't pushed over to the nexus card yet? * More importantly, is there any way to update my passport details without going to an enrolment centre? (Of course the official website only speaks about Nexus, not Global Entry) |

My GOES doesn't have the option for updating passport details, though?

FYI I am the same: I live outside the US/Canada, am a Nexus member, got a new passport while outside the US, updated my GOES information and nervously went to the GE machines when I flew into BOS a month or so later and used the machines with no problems. What I do worry about is renewing my Nexus! I am not sure I'll be able to because if interview is required I won't necessarily be able to get to a border office for it. To be fair, I don't use Nexus much any more (I used to), but I do want to keep GE. |

Change Password Change Security Questions Change Profile Update Mail-To Address Update Documents |
This is a silly question, and can probably guess the answer anyway, but..
For a child's enrollment interview.. Do they need to be physically present? I know there's only a 0.000001% chance that they don't need to be, but it would make life so much easier if I didn't need to take him. |
They need to take photo of the child, so yes they need to be there

It's a formality, really. The Canadians just want to see the passport and update their systems while the Americans want to do the same and take a picture. |
Since getting my NEXUS, it's been a wonderful couple of years not having to line up at YYZ preclearance.
On my next crossing, however, I will need to apply for TN authorization for a US contract. Is anyone able to clarify for me what I do on the day I apply for the TN? My guess would be to use the non-NEXUS path, speak to an officer and request TN processing. (OR would I use the GE machine, click "other" when it says Business or Pleasure, and have it refer me to secondary? OR is there another office?) Then, if I am successful in obtaining the TN, how do I update my NEXUS to show that status? Since I have passed the NEXUS office by the time I encounter CBP, I presume that I login to GOES and try to update the TN there, and visit the NEXUS office next time I go through? Thanks. |

In my case, I was working in the US and updated my work visa to a different status. I visited the NEXUS office to have them update my documentation - they added the new document, but they forgot to remove the old one. A few weeks later once the old document officially expired, I was flagged at the machines and sent to secondary where they ran a criminal check on me and inspected my bags. I was told that I should visit a NEXUS office and update my documents as soon as possible so that I would be in compliance. |
Are we at the point where TSA will consistently recognize NEXUS cards as valid ID when clearing security checkpoints?
The reason I ask is because REAL ID is going to cause WA state driver licenses from being accepted at some point down the road. I'd prefer to use my NEXUS card to clear security rather than going through the expense of purchasing the EDL and the annoyance of having to carry a license with RFID around with me at all times. I would expect this to be less of an issue at SEA, but I worry that at smaller airports not near the Canadian border, this could potentially be an issue. Any recent experiences with this? |
I have used my NEXUS card over 150 times at various US airports in the past 2 years and I have not had one TSA ID checker make the slightest comment about it, even at very small airports.
