Not sure what a GOES card is:confused: GOES is a website where you apply for trusted traveler programs.
Referring to Global Entry I assume. Can you post a specific link about the rumor on Canadians? Here is the thread POST#8 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/swiss...l-greeter.html |
I applied for Nexus mid-August and got my conditional approval 8/30. I was already going to be in YYZ and YOW end of September but the earliest they had appointments was October(!) so I made an appointment in Seattle(KFI) for today.
Had the appointment in the AM. Went smoothly (already had my approval notification when I got back on-line in the afternoon). Of course *after* I got there I learned that I will only be able to use the NEXUS card for sea and car access until I get an IRIS scan which they can't do in Seattle. Oops! So now I have to go to NEXUS enrollment center when I'm near there after all, but at least this time I don't need an appointment (for just an iris scan). What I don't know is how long it'll take - how long is the wait supposed to be. If no one has recent experience as a walk-up for iris scan I'll probably try calling them and asking in advance. The interview(s) took a lot longer than for Global Entry, by the way, I had a 9:15am appointment (got there around 9am) and I was out a few minutes after 10am. |
Iris scan apts are pretty quick. I just had mine redone last month @ YVR and I was in/out in less than 10 min.

Sorry meant Global entry.
Here is the thread POST#8 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/swiss...l-greeter.html It is available to permanent US residents (green card holders). It is also available for free to US citizens/perm. residents who are enrolled in Nexus (i.e. have to be eligible for Global Entry anyway). But not to Canadians, unless things changed very recently. |
Overseas posting while a Nexus holder
Sorry if this has been answered in the previous 127 pages; looked but did not find it there or on the Nexus website. I am a Canadian citizen Nexus holder.
I am going on a one year overseas posting. According to Revenue Canada, I will stay a Canadian resident (residential ties, etc). However, I will have both an overseas and a Canadian address and come back to Canada only for short visits during the year. I am moving some household goods with me and importing them back to Canada at the end of my posting, as per Canada Customs regulations on returning residents. Do I need to update my address with the Nexus authorities? Will my Nexus be cancelled as a "nonresident"? And if so will I be prevented from gaining it back on my return since I could be said to violate the 3 year residency rule? My first priority is to avoid falling afoul of the regulations. My second is to avoid 3 years without Nexus on my return. My third is to keep it active during the one year period as well for the occasional trip back. While mail to my Canadian address will reliably reach me during my posting, I don't want to have a scene on my return (as I import back boxes of household goods) asking "why didn't you change your Nexus address". |

I presume I won't be able to enjoy the Nexus lanes at airports until I complete the iris scan and wait for the card to come in the mail. :( Or did you get the card on the spot?

Ok, I took the plunge and applied. I'm hoping I can get approval and an appointment at YUL within the next 3 weeks...

You are correct. The card comes in the mail and is only good for airports once the Iris scan is completed.

Passport Change: US holders
Any US Citizens/Residents confirm the process for passport changing... I needed a new passport as I filled mine (even with the extra pages)
Visit Canadian side and US side (e.g I go through YVR normally)... Can US side be changed in GOES or do I need to go in person? |

Note that if you are at a location where there is no office, and you need to cross the border before you can get to one you should not use your Nexus, and will need to use the regular lane until you update it. Once your old one is canceled (when you send it in for renewal), your Nexus account will be flagged until you update with new passport info. |

I applied on Sunday afternoon and got a "conditionally approved" status on Wednesday:). I was impressed with how fast it was. First appointment at YVR was for Oct 26.
