So just to update today’s experience at SFO:
There are signs and people to direct you into the EOA line. Just follow the signs to the GE kiosks and it is the line next to GE. The CBP officer will process your entry and then direct you to add your name to a paper wait list. Then you go to seats in the back of the hall near the GE kiosks and wait for your name to be called. Do Not walk past the immigration booths into the baggage claim or you will have gone too far! At 5pm Saturday (multiple planes arriving) there were 5 names ahead of me on the list and I had to wait just over an hour for the interview. Not great after a 15hr flight but there is no real alternative as there are never online appointments at SFO. The interview itself varies in length - based on my limited observation it seemed to average approx 15 min per person. I was asked the usual questions and one about a recent trip, but otherwise very routine except that it took a while to get a good set of fingerprints. I received the status change "approval" email within a few hours. |
I had my EOA at DFW last month. As per CBP's official website the GE enrolment at DFW starts quite late at 0800 - my incoming flight from Santiago, Chile ended up arriving sooner than scheduled at 0445. A bit disappointed I walked past the baggage claim area and asked a CBP officer who politely directed me to a large room with an access-controlled door (presumably where the secondary and other inspections take place). He said I might have to wait three hours. In the event an officer turned up ten minutes later (probably took a break from whatever it was he was doing) to man a counter and process me. The whole thing took less than five minutes and I had the approval email in my inbox even before I exited the terminal.
The contractual help just after the baggage claim were dispensing some wrong guidance though - they assured me Global Entry enrolment was after clearing customs which was not the case. Had I followed their advice I would have been unable to get back to the secure area where the EOA facility was. |
My husband and I tried to do EOA last week at Dulles, but the line was very long, and eventually we had to leave to catch our connection home. Then I tried when we landed at IAH that day (even though that isn't where we went through customs), but the office was closed. It's only open until 4:00 pm. We have been unsuccessful getting appointments, although I check daily. I have thought about just driving to IAH and waiting in line, since the GE office is accessible without a boarding pass. What are the chances they will take pity on us and allow us to interview without an appointment? I just feel like that is our only chance to get the interview, since appointments are not available.

Thank you. I posted this question there, since I don't see IAH in the wiki.

Instead of a direct flight to DFW, connect through ATL / ORD / JFK / EWR / YYZ.

I have not done EoA at IAD but I did just arrive through the airport last week and saw the process. You do just go through immigration and grab your bags like you normally do. As you are exiting the arrivals hall there will be a window situation on the left wall that says specifically EoA and there will be a line that you queue up in. There was one person in it as we walked by the exit. Pretty easy compared to some of the confusing details I have read about how it is at other airports.

I can't change my flight plans unfortunately. It is a bit confusing as it says hours of operation and then says whenever International planes land... I don't understand why the officers can't do the interview right then and there, how long does it take?

In the various places I've seen EOA, it's just dedicated agents in a designated booth. In LA, we cleared the regular booth and then moved laterally to the end booth so my wife could do her EOA. I've seen similar things at other points of entry.

Hello, just received my conditional approval for GE applying first time. Flying into JFK tomorrow and hoping to do EOA. What documentation do I need? UK citizen. I hear speak of the letter of conditional approval, however, all I received was an email of status change. Is this letter required? Also do I need to schedule an interview for EOA or do I leave that blank and just walk in on arrival?

The Enrollment on Arrival program eliminates the need for a Global Entry applicant to schedule an interview at an enrollment center to complete the application process. When landing in an international terminal follow the signage directing you to CBP officers who can complete your Global Entry interview during your admissibility inspection. You won’t need any additional documents other than the requisite documents for international travel (e.g., your passport). |

Spouse recently applied for renewal . . . assume she can't do preemptive EoA but has to wait for conditional approval? Have flight coming into Dulles mid-July and obviously worth saving the trip and hassle of scheduling appointment (if one is needed).
