If you've had GE longer than six months, the flag should have been removed. If it wasn't, you need to visit a GE office and ask for "demotion." That is the correct term to remove the flag.
I was specifically told this after the 6th time of the X by a CBP who laughed and said to see a GE office and ask for this "demotion." I even went to an office in Puerto Rico previously and was told they didn't know why because "your profile is clean", the agent flipped his screen around and showed me "no issues" while shrugging his shoulders.

As others have said, this is originally for a juvy detainment that has since been sealed and destroyed. Did you notice this demotion was effective before I spend time trying to get in contact with the office? Thank you.

I'm not knowledgeable on the US side of the fence, but on the Canadian side (for NEXUS), a work permit that will soon expire or is expired is an automatic block to secondary (IMM 1-1, or Immigration 1). When you get to secondary the officers there have their usual inspection system, which in this circumstance, will not flag you for entry. Only after I got a new work permit and visited the NEXUS office to update it did I get called.

I would not be surprised if GE is the same way and the workings of the kiosk may be known by a few officers, but the reason that the kiosk spits out an X (on the GE system side) versus the computer systems CBP officers primarily use is different.

Sorry, did not see your question until today. My demotion was automatic, which is how it is supposed to work. A work colleague had to go to the GE office in Dallas to request demotion. The next time he used the GE kiosk (about 3 weeks after his visit to the office), he did not get the "X".

Global Entry fail

Not sure if there is a Global Entry thread somewhere but couldn't find it. If so, mods please merge.

So I got global entry bout 1.5 years ago and have taken 4 int'l trips in that time. All 4 int'l legs have flown into ORD. All 4 times I've tried to use the kiosks the slip of paper I received had a giant X over it and said to see an agent. I could see if they randomly made people use the regular process occasionally...but 4/4 seems like there is an issue. Each trip I've had other people with me, all who had Global Entry, all who had zero issues. They were 3 transatlantic trips and 1 Mexico.

Anyone have any issues like or a good contact number/email for the Global Entry folks? I looked at their website and saw a couple contact numbers, but as ti is the gov't, it'd be nice to have some other data points before I reach out.

Thanks!

It is possible that some of the data associated with your GE does not match your ticket or passport information. While generally not the case, the better the match the better for you. Make certain that the name match is exact (no extra periods or spaces) in all three.

If that isn't the case, you will find better satisfaction out at the GE station at ORD than by calling or sending a message.

Agree there's something wrong, probably a name mismatch or not reading your fingerprints. If you have dry hands rub your forehead right before you scan them to get some oil on there. When I had my interview the CBP agent said she ran into hard to read fingerprints relatively frequently. Also make sure your name is spelled exactly the same everywhere- including using middle name vs middle initial.

Also I've alerted a mod to merge this with an existing thread on the Trusted Traveler forum (The dreaded "X" with Global Entry).

I don’t see ticket mismatch being an issue. Often times GE kiosks at Preclearance in Canada don’t pick up my flight info and I had to manually select it. No issue with X.

The Xs I've seen for some travel party members most commonly don't have anything to do with a "name mismatch" -- as it's more commonly been those without a "name mismatch" that got the X than those with no "name mismatch" between passport/GE card/ and ticketed name.

And like seawolf, when it comes to my use of GE kiosks, my having to manually enter or otherwise confirm my flight info, has not resulted in X on my GE slips.

If that's the problem, wouldn't the scan show "bad" for fingerprints? Mine usually get a "good" (or whatever - it's green), so you'd know if it's having a hard time.

No. It will show that good fingerprints have been captured, not whether they match the stored ones. I kept getting the X due to fingerprints until a CBP officer told me the trick of placing my fingers on my forehead before scanning after coming in from a long flight. I haven't had a biometrics issue since. ^

Had the x once while clearing at the Dubai airport (you clear customs etc there), talked to the CBP officer there, asking why the X, she was able to do something on her computer, and since then no problems
did not tell me what she did, but it worked

I have bad psorasis on my fingers. If it flares up and they don't get a good read on my fingers I get the X. At least that is what I attribute it to, because it is almost like the machine times out or can't verify it is me.

Based on the questions I am asked and the agent looking at my fingers, I am on my way in minutes.

Has anyone lose experienced this? Shed light on it? Thanks

I am a dual citizen (Italy and USA) and just got GE a few months ago. Flew into LAX from LHR last week and got the same treatment. They took me to a holding area and interrogated me for a half hour. Apparently they knew I had travelled to Pakistan (for a friends wedding) on my Italian passport and wanted to know more. Asked for grooms name address and phone number... as well as my social media handles, job, etc. When I asked if this was going to happen every time I come to America they answered with a half smile and a “maybe yes maybe no”.... and when they told me to leave they said jokingly l, see you next time. <redacted>!

I am getting the "X" 100% of the time now - getting very frustrating. Always sent to talk to a person, but have never been subjected to any additional security because of it.

I travel a fair amount, so my memory is a bit fuzzy on exact details, but it started sometime in the last year. Sometime after, but not immediately after, I renewed my GE and got a new passport at the same time. So it could be related, but strange that it didn't start occurring right away.

I noticed when I use the GE Kiosk, the process (fingerprints & questions) is the same except that doesn't show me my inbound flight.

At first I just took the X to a person in a special line, they looked at my passport and didn't say anything. I think this happened at SFO and LAX. Then I came into EWR, and then they took me to the holding pen. In this case, the person was more helpful and said that it appeared to be a problem with my fingerprints and that I was still vetted by GE. So thinking that was great info, I started to look into fixing my fingerprints. I was amazed that nothing on the GE website showed how to fix any problem, let alone a specific problem. So I pressed it coming into DEN, got ejected again, went to talk to the guy and tried to ask him how to fix it. I was a little frustrated and something to the tune of "this is worthless now because of the X", and he responded with a terse "you are at the front of the line aren't you?". Needless to say it ended there. He did ask if I had been arrested, which made me doubt if everyone is reading off the same sheet of music.

2 weeks ago, IAD this time, same thing. Person asked me a few questions and let me in. I didn't even bother to ask what he thought I should do.

Anyway - any opinions on how to attack this problem? It seems the airport CBP strategy is failing. I could try to talk to the GE folks at DEN, but their interview schedule is packed until 8 months out, and that's only for new and renewals.

Appreciate any help.
