New free trial: 3 months, "holiday3".

(Probably only worth using if the 4 month trial is dead)

FWIW for me clear hasn't saved much time so far, in fact I'm avoiding it since it's slower unless there's actually a real line. Would've been useful at EWR, could've been useful once at SFO but I decided to walk around to compare checkpoints, and discovered that the next checkpoint was practically empty (always using Pre).

The whole process takes 15-20 seconds (scan BP, scan fingerprints, and employee taps OK). Unless there is zero people in the Pre-Check line (never the case at DEN on days that I travel), CLEAR is faster for me.

We're flying on Friday morning, and I will wager CLEAR will save us many minutes. I couldn't even fathom how early we'd have to arrive if we had to use the regular security line.

This just happened to me at BWI at the D/E checkpoint, also my first time having to rescan my BP when using CLEAR. In fact the CLEAR agent told me I would have to show ID because I did not have a paper boarding pass. "Doesn't that defeat the purpose of this?" non-committal response.

So I dug out my ID but the TSA agent barely glanced at it; however he did ask me to rescan the boarding pass.

Is CLEAR at the DTW international F terminal? Hours?

Never mind. I'm confusing DTW and ATL. Not awake.

Questions about signing up for the 4-month free trial:

Is there anything better than the 4-month free deal?

How long does it take to set up my account after I sign up for the trial? (I'm flying out of SEA in 10 days)

I can get 6 months free through my FoundersCard membership. Is there any reason to fear that that won't work after I exhaust my 4-month free trial?

A. For us, No. In your case, yes. So far we haven't seen anything better that is freely available to everyone without participating in any programs. (However... there's a chance the 6MO code will still work for the rest of us -hint hint )

Q. How long does it take to set up my account after I sign up for the trial? (I'm flying out of SEA in 10 days)

A. 5 Minutes at most for each part, in fact, I was giving the code out to people at MCO as they were entering the door, enrolling is really that easy. It takes longer to get the fingerprints, but in the end, it'll likely take 7-10 (for both the online and in-person enrollment combined) mins at most when all set and done and can be done at your own pace. Just do it whenever you have the time at home and you'll be all set. Show up at the kiosk, show your ID and finish the process they'll have you name on file

The important thing to take into account here is Clear is a subscription service that provides no add'l convenience post ID check. So no real background checks are involved and you can join the program immediately once done with the enrollment process which is entirely automated. There's zero waiting involved and no card is shipped in the mail. Once you finish the online form, on your next flight head right to the enrollment center and have your fingerprints and iris scanned, then answer a few quick questions and be 'cleared' it's that easy.

A. Yes, if you have a longer trial, don't even think about using this one -it won't work. Clear does not allow you to stack trials. However, if you have a spouse, you could give it to them under a different email and let them use either code again on her/him. Also, if you don't find Clear to be worth the money, it is critical that you cancel the subscription the day before it expires as otherwise it will bill your CC (yes, it's like a trial to Hulu, they're out to get you -so stay vigilant and put the trials expiration date on the calendar)
I'll actually have my answers inside the quote, so look for the bold text.

I don't know if I'll get a "code" - the way other FoundersCard promos have worked is that I tell them to activate a benefit and they do it for me, so I doubt I'll be able to share the benefit with anyone ... more on this later...

Q. How long does it take to set up my account after I sign up for the trial? (I'm flying out of SEA in 10 days)

A. 5 Minutes at most for each part, ... Once you finish the online form, on your next flight head right to the enrollment center and have your fingerprints and iris scanned, then answer a few quick questions and be 'cleared' it's that easy.

Thanks - I'll wait until the day before my flight then, just to maximize my 4-month trial

So ... as I said above, I think my FoundersCard benefit might work differently from other "trial" offers, and may even involve FC paying some (probably small) amount of money to CLEAR to get me my 6 months. So my *GUESS* is that I may be able to get the 6 months membership after my 4 months has expired, but I'm not confident of that and I'll try to find out through other channels.

Thank you for your helpful and prompt reply

Annoyance: I re-signed Mrs. Swede up for the $50/yr family membership. I logged into her account, and I tried to find a place to enter the referral code--and there isn't one. So I just clicked on "Reactivate" and hoped for a place to enter the code. Nope. Immediately charged $99.

I e-mailed customer support, supplied the referral code, and asked for a $49 refund. About a week later, the refund was processed.

We used it on 12/23 (morning) at DEN. The general line was about 35 minutes, and the Pre-Check line was about 40 deep. We easily saved about 5 minutes--except TSA lacked staff to do secondary baggage screenings.

I used it again last night at DEN. The Pre-Check line was about 20 deep with only one ID checker--and the agent trying to explain to a Hispanic lady who spoke no English that (1) Spirit Airlines doesn't participate yet in the Pre-Check program and (2) she cannot use a DFW-DEN boarding pass to fly out of DEN.

Oh please tell me the agent starting shouting in English so that the Hispanic lady could understand better.

I wish! Fortunately, the next person waiting in line was able to translate.

[EDIT: Never mind - I had cut&pasted my [virtual] CC # from a source that had spaces in it. Once I deleted the spaces it worked fine]

Is the 4-month free trial dead?

I just tried signing up at http://enroll.clearme.com/p/DSPVISION4 and I can enter all my info but the "Submit and Continue" button cannot be clicked.

went through LAS this morning. regular line was probably 50 deep. Precheck was 1 person. Clear Me staff were out the front actually asking people 'would you like to skip the line today?'. they weren't getting any takers for some reason. i have precheck and UA global services (which gets me straight to the front of the precheck line) so i don't have a need for clear me myself.

What do you mean exactly by straight to the front of the PreCheck line? Are you escorted?

In SFO, ORD and EWR, the GS check-in areas have a back door that comes out into TSA and puts you at the front of the queue. In some other places like LAX, there is a separate line that will take you to the front of precheck. Once they see that gold on the boarding pass, things open up

Question WHY would anyone sign up for CLEAR? (serious question)

Could someone please explain why anyone would even consider paying $179 per year for CLEAR, when they could get TSA Pre-check or Global Entry for about 10% of that price, and with better privileges that they can use at over ten times as many airports as CLEAR? Nothing against CLEAR, I'm just sincerely curious, since I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would sign up for it.

CLEAR costs over twice as much each year as Pre-Check charges for five years (!), and CLEAR's annual price is nearly double that of a five-year Global Entry membership. CLEAR is currently operational in only 15 cities, while TSA Pre-check and Global Entry are operational just about all over the US (including all of the small number of airports where CLEAR operates).

On top of that, TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry lines let you keep your shoes on, you don't have to pull your laptop out, you can keep light jackets on, and you don't have to show liquids under 3 ounces. CLEAR does not put you through the Pre-Check line (unless you have it from somewhere else), so you still waste time with your shoes and laptop, etc.

I get that Delta has a $99 per year special, but at that price, CLEAR is then only five times as expensive per year as TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry, and still without Pre-Check lines, and it is still useless at most airports. Yes, occasionally the Pre-Check line takes ten, not five minutes, but seriously - an extra five minutes on maybe one fourth of your flights is worth $179 per year? If I'm missing something here, let me know!
