So now at the 17 month point. A few weeks back, once I was past 16 months, I sent an email to CBP via the "contact us" form, selecting this issue was with my GE renewal. Both the form and email worked well - was able to write a brief synopsis of the issue, and was given a unique case number.
Received a (form) email two days later... saying "currently experiencing high demand..." and that GE is taking on average 13-14 months. It went on to say that those were average and there is nothing to do about it taking longer, and to keep checking online for the current status.. If I still needed help with something else I could respond. As such, I did not reply and a follow-up email came in saying "matter is now closed." So, 17 months / 516 days, and counting. Fab. Wow, I think this is the longest wait (and counting) that I've read of. I was getting ready to call as I'm nearing 12 month wait. I guess, I'll shut up. |
Applied for 2nd Renewal (GE had expired): 3/23

Applied for 1st Renewal: 2/20/23

P2 applied for first renewal on 4/2/2023

Does DHS send you an email if/when you get approved? Or do you have to manually check the website every day?

Please login to the Trusted Traveler Programs Website (https://ttp.dhs.gov <https://ttp.dhs.gov> <https://ttp.dhs.gov> <https://ttp.dhs.gov>>;) for more information. This e-mail was sent from a notification-only address that cannot accept incoming email. Please do not reply to this message. Thank you, U.S. Customs and Border Protection" Note the PASS ID (marked [REDACTED] above and below) in the Email (and below) was the SAME PASSID as my current/soon-to-be-expiring PASSID number. 2024-04-05 Logged into https://ttp.dhs.gov site as a "returning" member. New "Notification" towards the top of the screen. "Approval Notification 04/05/2024" Clicked on that notification entry, new Tab/Page opened "Official Trusted Traveler Program Website | Department of Homeland Security Time of Printout: 2024-04-05 [Local time and time zone displayed] Apr 5, 2024 WASHINGTON, DC ENROLLMENT CENTER 1300 Pennsylvania Ave, NW 2.4D, Suite 2.5A Washington, DC 20229 US [JSNYDCSA] [Current Postal Address] Re: Global Entry program Membership #[REDACTED] Dear [JSNYDCSA]: We are pleased to inform you that your U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Global Entry program membership has been approved. You can begin using the program immediately. Please visit www.cbp.gov/global-entry/about to review the program criteria for detailed information. Your Global Entry membership number is [REDACTED]. This number will also act as your Known Traveler Number for your TSA Pre-Check benefit. For more information on the TSA Pre-Check program please visit their web site at www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck. Thank you for applying to the CBP's Trusted Traveler Programs. Respectfully, Director, Trusted Traveler Programs U.S. Customs and Border Protection" On the same "main" screen (as the Notifications) TTB Dashboard there's a note "Approved Program: Global Entry Includes:TSA PreCheck® Membership Number/PASSID: [REDACTED] Expiration Date: June [REDACTED] 2029 You cannot renew your membership until June [REDACTED], 2028." and "Application [Checkmark in Green] Select program [Checkmark in Green] Fill out application [Checkmark in Green] Pay fee [Checkmark in Green] Wait for conditional approval Interview [Checkmark in Green] Schedule interview [Checkmark in Green] Have interview, and wait for approval Activate membership card (if needed)" NOTE - As part of this brief (e.g. 2 days from Renewal Application until today's "Application Status Change") renewal process, I did NOT schedule or have an interview. So, I have NO idea why I have the [Checkmark in Green] next to "Schedule interview" and next to "Have interview, and wait for approval" I'll take it. Nothing indicated that I need to schedule an interview or doe the interview on arrival. So, it looks like I'm good to go. I'll come back and update if I receive a new GE Card and if the "TTB Dashboard" blue box hyperlink "Activate Membership Card" works/and or is "successful" at activating said new card. FWIW. In my case, i have no criminal record here or abroad. Neither I, nor spouse (dual citizen and GE Member), nor under-18 kids (also dual citizen and GE Members), have never been accused of any immigration violations (whether traveling with me or not). I've been fingerprinted by the USG MANY times for security clearances for the USG and other US-jobs. In the past, for my and my family members' GE applications (regardless of age) or renewals, when requested to appear in person, we've either gone to CBP Main in Washington DC (the Reagan Building on Penn Ave, NW, for those with local knowledge) or to CBP's LANDSIDE Office at IAD (IIRC it's a special room/office within CBP) for fingerprinting, document verification and scanning, etc. So maybe I'm just "good" in some matrix's algorithm and they don't need to lay eyes on me for this renewal round. Hope this is helpful for data points and at least one person's experience with renewal. Edit to add one final data point / experience. 9 April 2024 - Received Global Entry Card in Mail - New Card Expires in 2029 Card showed old photo. Its hard to tell if it was a photo taken at an application/renewal centre or was grabbed from a recent Global Entry kiosk. I strongly suspect the former based on my "look" in the photo, but I could be wrong. 9 April 2024 - Logged in to TTP site and activated card. No issues activating. |
Wife's Global Entry first renewal... email with approval last week arrived 32 hours after submitted the application. Her birthday is in late October, and the next expiration is at the end of that month - 2029.
|
Finally approved 1 year + 1 day after renewal application. This seems to be the trend from what I've seen lately. Approval notice has the NYC CBP address where I had given the 1st interview.
|
Approved without interview for second renewal, right at the one year mark since application.

March 22 - 2nd renewal application submitted
March 24 - Approval Received - no interview required About 1 week later new card valid to 2030 received. Both renewals did not require an interview for me, which has been nice. |
I've had Global Entry since 2014. Renewal in 2019 took over a month and I had to reinterview.
Not sure if it matters, but between 2014 and 2019 I was doing a lot of traveling for work. I had repeated trips to China, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, all over Europe multiple times a year and other trips to Central America and Africa. During my renewal interview the only questions that stand out in my memory were "Why are you traveling so much?" and "Have you ever been arrested in a foreign country?" The interview took about 90 seconds and seemed like a waste of time for both me and CPB officer. I've since switched jobs and dialed back on travel. Since 2019 I've only been to Europe and Central America. I now work remote for a UK company and put a UK phone number down along with my home address for my employment info (wasn't sure if this was going to cause issues). I reapplied on Wednesday afternoon and was fully approved without the need for interview last night. Application to approval time was 30 hours. |
Submitted GE renewal on Sunday, April 7th for a teen (a minor child whose only travel outside USA/Canada during 5 year look-back period was to Iceland & Greenland.)
Email came in on Tuesday, April 9th that status had been updated. Approved (no interview required.) It was a good reminder to keep track of all foreign countries visited. I asked said child to start tracking this somewhere as the next renewal will be as a young adult when Mommy may not be keeping anyone's schedule but her own anymore... :D |

My renewal was finally approved with no interview at almost exactly 16 months.
I apparently miscounted my months, also. I counted more carefully now, and it was over 17 months. Wow! |
