I'm not sure that's the problem being described - it sounds like it's a problem for someone who has already renewed their passport, but didn't update GE before renewing. In other words, the system may be seeing the passport as "cancelled" (which it is upon renewal) so doesn't transmit the application. If you applied for renewal of GE and then renewed, you should be in the same bucket as everyone else who has done the same thing.

I wonder if a related issues with RealID driver licenses are causing the issue. I'm in the 6+ month group and while I did renew my passport and update GOES, I also converted my DL to a RealID compliant DL. My expiration date did NOT change (I technically exchanged my old DL for a RealID rather than renew it), but the issue date (which was not asked on the application that I can recall) did change. I'm wondering if that is causing some sort of mismatch which requires manual review.

I'm wondering if that is causing some sort of mismatch which requires manual review. I was part of the six-months processing delay of my Global Entry renewal. Some have reported waiting only a few days for renewal. There is no pattern that explains the delays! No matter how many times we try to guess the reasons for the long delays, I believe the answer lies in what the agent at Global Entry in Washington D.C. told me regarding the renewal processing time. She said that the processing time depends solely on a "queue" that she said was not public information. I wrote about this "queue" earlier in this thread. I see that someone started a good-faith new thread that lists "factors" that might explain delays for Global Entry renewal. No matter how logical or well-meaning guesses might be, there has not been any pattern shown that explains the long delays in Global Entry renewal versus short time approvals for renewals. For those still waiting, I wish you a speedier renewal out of that mysterious "queue" that seems to be the source of the delays. |

It is time for the periodic reminder.
The Trusted Travelers forum is informational. Members come here in search of data points and practical advice about applying for and using the various Trusted Travelers programs. This thread is for keeping track of processing timelines of Global Entry renewal applications. Please limit your postings here to seeking and providing practical information, and sharing news, experiences and data points about Global Entry renewals approval timelines. While some limited natural deviation from the topic is obviously acceptable, please let's keep the focus of this thread on reporting approval times. Complaints, commentaries, opinions, rants about government bureaucracy and speculation as to why some applicants experience longer waits for the conditional and/or final approval of their renewal applications belong in the Checkpoints and Borders Policy Debate forum. Future non-informational content will be summarily deleted. Thank you for understanding, TWA884 Travel Safety/Security co-moderator |
Is there any newer information about renewal and if its any faster? My 2nd renewal is coming up in May. I also did read that as long as I apply it is still valid for 1 year after expiration date. Anybody had practical experience on this? I found the 1 year info here:

https://thepointsguy.com/news/global...er-expiration/ I moved your question to the relevant thread. Several members who applied for renewal of their Global Entry membership before the expiration date have reported in this thread that they continued to receive GE benefits, including PreCheck, between the original expiration date and the final approval of their renewal applications. I hope this helps, TWA884 Travel Safety/Security co-moderator |

You should apply as early as possible for your renewal.

If you receive your new passport before the final approval of your GE renewal application, you will not be able to update the passport information online while the GE renewal application is still pending. If that were the case, you will need to stop by a GE Enrollment Center to have the passport information updated or, if you are selected to have an enrollment interview before receiving final approval, bring both your expired and new passports to the interview and have the interviewing CPB officer update it during the interview. There is helpful information in the following threads: |
Bringing the expired/cancelled passport to CBP isn’t necessary for already conditionally-approved renewal applicant to have the “interview” and get final renewal approved with just the new passport available for the “interview”, but it does make things faster/easier if/when able to bring both.
With or without the passport which expired or got cancelled after receiving a conditionally-approved renewal, the conditionally-approved renewal applicant will have to have and present a currently valid passport to CBP before final approval for the renewal can happen. If you receive your new passport before the conditional approval of your GE renewal application, you will not be able to update the passport information online while the GE renewal application is still pending. When this is the case, you will need to stop by a GE Enrollment Center or EOA-processing CBP employee to have the passport information updated for the application. |

For those renewal applicants who received a new passport before the conditional approval of the GE renewal application, CBP doing EOA and CBP at landslide enrollment centers can update pending renewal applications with new passport information.
If your question is if a particular FTer can reach such an EOA facility, you should ask that FTer as some can but not all can. For those who can, EOA line has worked to do this update. |
