Red Wine 2008 Chateau La Garde, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, France From a fine 50-hectare estate on the famous gravelly soils of Pessac-Leognan where the rich fruit of the Merlot grape dominates the firmer backbone of Cabernet Sauvignon, with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to add aroma and grip, the hand-harvested, oak-aged La Garde's deep ruby colour leads to aromas of blackberry and blueberry and an impressive freshness and depth of fruit on the palate. The 2008 vintage shows all the elegance for which the red wines of Bordeaux are famous. 2008 Tatachilla Shiraz - McLaren Vale, Australia Shiraz is Australia's most famous grape variety - yet the style of wine produced varies greatly depending upon the specific climatic conditions of the region. McLaren Vale has dry and warm Mediterranean growing conditions so the Shiraz wines are ripe and full with a soft finish. The region close to the sea south of Adelaide is well known for its patchwork of olive groves, almond trees and vineyards. Whilst Tatachilla was established over 100 years ago it has undergone a major renaissance over the last 15 years and now produces some of the regions finest wines. These characters follow through onto the palate where they combine with citrus flavours and an enveloping texture. The palate is lingering and culminates with a natural sweetness and balanced acidity. Hunter's Wines Marlborough Riesling 2010 A youthful wine exhibiting fresh lime, citrus and green apple characteristics with hints of tropical fruits. It's invigorating acidity supports the lively and crisp structure of the wine presenting floral notes and a stringly long finish on the palate. West Brook Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2011 A sublimely ethereal infusion of musk, lily, earthen spices and lemon aromatics parade before the nose. A precise and assured palate tickles with its freshness and seduces the senses with its playful amour. Pinot Noir Auntsfield Estate Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010 This intensely concentrated Pinot Noir has aromas of ripe berry fruit, spices and savoury nuances. Gentle acidity balances the sugar and refreshingly low alcohol keeps the wine in context with the fruit concentration. Saint Clair Awatere Valley Reserve Noble Riesling 2009 This wine has an enticing bouquet of soft dried apricot dipped in honey and underlying notes of orange blossom. The palate shows luscious pear and stone fruit with a hint of beeswax and a long lingering honey and lemon zest finish. Winner : Pure Gold 2011 Air New Zealand Wine Awards Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Noble Viognier 2010 The colour is a beautiful green/gold, with depth. The aromas are reminiscent of honey and crystalized apricots. The botrytis has a big effect, with hints of the floral citrus and jasmine aspects of Viognier showing. It is very luscious and concentrated with strong flavours of dried fruits, especially apricots. The finish is very long and despite the sweetness, finishes dry with no cloying sugar as sometimes happens with this style of wine. |
