I like the bedroom with no windows but with the "anteroom". Would seem to help cut down on noise and light while sleeping but give you a relaxing daytime option.

Apparently so, I hope thats true now. But I think the robbery in 2019 has had an impact.

It was certainly quiet. The door to the small room next door wasnt really light-tight, and the windows didnt have proper curtains. So it was surprisingly a bit brighter than usual in the bedroom.

Residentschloss Dresden

The Green Vault isnt the only attraction; the Royal Residence has even more to offer. Although the Copper Engraving Gallery was closed, there is some modern art on display.

Another highlight is the armoury, which houses a range of interesting suits of armour a real treat for fans of knights.

There is also clothing on display.

A ceremonial saddle.

Some art

A corridor lined with rifles.

Seating group

Staircase

The state rooms include the throne room

the bedroom (no one slept here)

and the small ballroom.

Tapestry: The Fainting of Esther

The Turkish Chamber (Trckische Cammer) displays, among other things, a tent; Augustus the Strong was fascinated by the Ottomans.

There are also a few pieces of furniture and clocks on display.

I wonder how heavy all the displayed armour was and how long did it take to put it on.

Some of them were indeed ceremonial armour, worn for parades but not for going to war. It certainly took quite a while to put them on.

Heiderad Dresden

For the evenings, I naturally consulted the Michelin Guide. There are four Michelin-starred restaurants in and around Dresden, one of which is Heiderand. That was to be the first meal.
The restaurant has only just been awarded a Michelin star; its essentially a "Gasthaus" that has now switched to gourmet cuisine.

Homemade lemonade

The menu

Petit fours and bread

Char, carrot, sea buckthorn, coriander

Semi-rare, just lightly seared. A lovely dish.
Pirogge, kohlrabi, buttermilk, elderberry capers

This is lovely too.
Cod, hay, pine nuts, cauliflower

A really tasty dish I really enjoyed it.
Chcory, beetroot, pistachio, indian pepper

I was a bit sceptical about this dish at first chicory is often so bitter. But it tasted absolutely delicious.
Pineapple, sour cream, buckweat, milk chocolate

Also good.
Petit Fours

The bill

I guess its normal these days
That was a lovely meal; I can highly recommend Heiderand. Its not a candlelit restaurant, but rather a relaxed meal in a laid-back atmosphere. I thought the price was fair.

Porzellanmanufaktur Meissen

Meissen is about half an hours drive from Dresden. The name Meissen is closely associated with the porcelain manufactory, and that is where we started the day.

I must admit, I do like Meissen porcelain and I own some myself I actually use it for eating, though of course I also keep some in the cupboard. The manufactory has created a visitor centre featuring a shop, a museum and a demonstration workshop.
The entrance to the shop I didnt take any photos there, though. You can buy Meissen products there.

We started with a small special exhibition. On display are figurines that are actually available to buy. The prices are in the five-figure range, so theyre not exactly a bargain.

Porzellanmanufaktur Meissen

Unsurprisingly, the porcelain manufactory has a large collection of porcelain, with a particular focus on figurines. Its a great museum for porcelain enthusiasts.

Last but not least, the demonstration workshop. It began with a film, followed by four stations. The first involved shaping on the potters wheel.

Next came the assembler, who puts the pieces together.

Dom Meissen

As I mentioned earlier, there is much more to discover in Meissen than just the porcelain factory. Next, we headed up to the Domberg to visit the cathedral.

However, anyone expecting a Catholic cathedral is bound to be disappointed, as we are in the heartland of the Reformation. That is why the cathedrals here are unique in that they are Protestant and, in essence, are just ordinary parish churches.
Inside, the first thing you come to is the Princes Chapel, one burial place of the Wettin dynasty.

The nave with the rood screen (Lettner)

.A flight of steps leads up to the octagonal chapel.

From the gallery, you can look down into the chancel and the nave.

The remains of the Krgiser Altar are housed in a separate room. In 1990, the statue of John the Baptist was stolen; it remains missing to this day.

The high choir with the figures of the founders.

The small museum

Cloister

All Saints' Chapel

Albrechtsburg Meissen

Right next to the cathedral stands Albrechtsburg Castle. It is best known as the first production site for Meissen porcelain. It was built there for security reasons. Later, the castle was decorated with historical paintings, and during the Second World War it served as a secure storage facility.

CAMONDAS Schokoladen-Eis-Kontor

As well as ice cream, they mainly sell hot chocolate here. The quality was fine; you couldnt really complain.

Kulturpalast Dresden

The Kulturplast is a relic of the GDR era. As a sort of decoration, a beautiful mosaic has been affixed to the outside, featuring the most ridiculous slogans the SED crooks could come up with.

If youre not laughing now, you dont speak German. Here are some linguistic gems to enjoy, such as:
The liberation of the working class can only be the work of the working class

life is our programme

and the best one: We are the victors of history

Sure. Luckily, not this time.
