Meissen is about half an hour’s drive from Dresden. The name Meissen is closely associated with the porcelain manufactory, and that is where we started the day.

I must admit, I do like Meissen porcelain and I own some myself – I actually use it for eating, though of course I also keep some in the cupboard. The manufactory has created a visitor centre featuring a shop, a museum and a demonstration workshop.

We started with a small special exhibition. On display are figurines that are actually available to buy. The prices are in the five-figure range, so they’re not exactly a bargain.
