Schloss Moritzburg
The next day, our first stop was Moritzburg Castle.

Does the castle look familiar to some of you, even though you’ve never been there? Yes, that’s exactly why:

The film *Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella*, one of the most popular Christmas films, was filmed at the castle.
Let’s take a tour of the castle.

Inside, there is one of the largest collections of hunting trophies. It was completed in its present form – how could it be otherwise – under Augustus the Strong.

Elements Dresden
The last restaurant we visited in Dresden was Elements. It’s located in an old industrial complex and is certainly an interesting venue.

The interior décor is also interesting, comprising a mix of different elements.

The menu

Bread

Amuse Boche

Non-alcoholic wine

Radicchio, red chicory, pomegranate, rhubarb

Asparagus salad, port, egg yolk and hazelnut

Crispy fillet of Madai sea bream, saffron beurre blanc, fennel, potatoes

Śufs ŕ la neige with rhubarb and toasted chocolate

Petit Fours

The bill

A lovely meal – everything tasted great. Creative and interesting throughout.

If you had to choose two out of the four, which ones would it be? I will be in Dresden in September, and I certainly trust your taste in food porn ;-)

Maybe I’d go with Sanssouci and Heiderand. Sanssouci because it’s a great venue that’s worth a visit in its own right. Plus, the food is excellent. Heiderand is quite down-to-earth, more of a tavern with good food. But elements and Genuss Atelier are also great, though I’d lean more toward elements. Sanssouci is the farthest from the city center, if that matters. It’s also the most expensive.

Albertinum Dresden
The Albertinum is Dresden’s modern art museum. First, a brief glimpse of the permanent exhibition.

There are always those “very special” paintings.

There was a major special exhibition featuring works by Munch and Mendelsohn-Becker. For a bit of contrast, there was even a Cranach or two thrown in. An interesting exhibition – here’s just a small selection.
